Caregiver -PCA (Personal Care Attendent )

Schedule

• PRN, part-time, and full-time hours available
• Monday–Friday and weekends
• AM and PM 12-hour shifts
• Flexible locations—pick up shifts in other areas as well

Qualifications

• Completion of the ninth grade; high school graduate preferred
• Able to read and write consistent with job requirements
• Emotional and cognitive maturity to establish and maintain positive working relationships with clients, families, and agency personnel
• Neat, clean personal appearance
• Free from health problems that may be injurious to client, self, or coworkers; must provide required health documentation
• Annual TB skin test and proof submitted to Human Resources
• Reliable transportation
• Passing score on skills validation test demonstrating knowledge and skills related to:
  • Appropriate work experience and/or caregiving experience
  • Methodology for assisting clients to achieve maximum self-reliance
  • Principles of nutrition and meal preparation
  • Principles of the aging process and emotional issues related to illness and long-term home care
  • Procedures for maintaining a clean, healthful, and pleasant environment
  • Maintenance of ethics and confidentiality of client care
  • Roles of healthcare team members and inter-relationships in care
  • Providing information for supervisors and maintaining required records (plan of care, reports, timesheets)
  • Reporting concerns, changes in client condition, or home environment
  • Supervisory visits and recertification processes
• Ability to perform basic non-skilled personal care and housekeeping tasks
• Interest and concern for people
• Good judgment and tact in dealing with people
• Proper hygiene and knowledge of basic safety and sanitation
• Understanding of Standard Precautions and basic infection prevention and control practices
• Awareness of available counseling for difficult cases and potentially dangerous situations

Responsibilities

• Follow the plan of care prepared by the supervisor to:
  • Help client maintain personal hygiene
  • Assist in maintaining a healthful, safe environment
  • Plan and prepare nutritious meals
  • Shop for groceries and supplies as instructed
  • Assist with non-skilled personal care, including:
    • Bathing, skin care, hair care, nail care, mouth care, shaving
    • Dressing, feeding, ambulation, exercise, transfers, positioning
    • Bladder and bowel care, medication reminding, respiratory care
    • Accompanying, homemaking, protective oversight, and respite care
  • Encourage client independence within allowed activities
  • Provide positive emotional support
  • Perform routine housekeeping tasks (light housekeeping, meal prep, dishwashing, bed making, laundry, shopping)
  • Teach clients these tasks as appropriate
• Follow Standard Precautions during all aspects of client care
• Establish a trusting, confidential relationship with the client and family
• Complete visit reports with time in/out, document services, obtain client signature, and submit per guidelines
• Report client concerns or condition changes to the supervisor
• Carry out assignments as instructed; report inability to do so
• Collaborate with personnel from other agencies involved in the client’s care
• Maintain confidentiality at all times
• Perform only functions specified in the plan of care; never provide skilled care
• Follow emergency procedures for incidents, accidents, injuries, or significant changes in client condition; report immediately

Pay

Standard rate: $15.00 – $17.50 per hour
