About the role
Caregivers can work independently in client homes or for a healthcare facility providing personal care to patients. They typically travel to a client's home and help them perform basic domestic tasks like cleaning and activities of daily living such as bathing and providing them with companionship and emotional support.
Responsibilities
- Provide clients with companionship, socialization, and mental stimulation
- Transport clients to and from appointments, errands, activities, etc.
- Auxiliary with activities of daily living such as bathing, dressing, toileting, and personal hygiene
- Auxiliary with transfers & ambulation
- Provide medication reminders
- Prepare and cook meals
Requirements
- Experience with dementia care; Alzheimer's; Parkinson's
- Empathy and the ability to care for the client’s social, emotional, physical, and mental needs
- Ability to respond to an emergency situation
- Physical ability to reach with hands and arms
- Ability to carry, lift or pull up to 50 pounds, while avoiding injury from transferring, repositioning, or lifting patients
- Ability to occasionally push/pull objects up to 50 pounds and to bend/kneel to complete activities
- Physical strength and stamina
Qualifications
- Committed to providing patients with high-quality care
- Strong interest in elderly care and memory impairment disorders
- Energetic and compassionate
- Team player and great communicator
Skills
- Current HCA (Preferred)
- CPR Certification
