Caregiver - Hourly

About the Role

The Caregiver supports residents with activities of daily living, including personal hygiene, socialization, cognition, and physical health. They encourage resident independence, support residents' ability to make independent choices, and preserve dignity through professional conduct and interactions.

Responsibilities

• Adhere to CAPLICO Core Values and Code of Conduct, ensuring compliance with Resident Rights and HIPAA policies.
• Demonstrate teamwork by communicating with staff, resolving problems, and assisting other community staff.
• Provide residents with assistance for personal needs according to the support/care plan, including toileting, bathing, dressing, grooming, mobility, transport, and dining.
• Practice patience, compassion, and empathy in all interactions, focusing on residents' abilities and encouraging independence.
• Promote improved quality of life through person-centered care, including prompt response to calls for assistance, sensitivity to social and privacy needs, and facilitating participation in activities.
• Interact and communicate respectfully with residents and family members; refer concerns to nurses or supervisors.
• Utilize Standard Precautions and follow infection control procedures.
• Observe and promptly report changes in resident health, behavior, or needs to supervisors.
• Report unusual events, suspicion of abuse/neglect, and emergency situations immediately.
• Assist residents with dining, including preparing/cleaning the dining room, food selection, and serving food and beverages.
• Promote a pleasant dining environment and encourage social interaction among residents.
• Complete resident laundry as scheduled and according to community policy.
• Clean resident rooms, bathrooms, and common areas if assigned, following community protocols.
• Report maintenance needs promptly and take safety precautions to minimize injury risks.
• Practice proper body mechanics and safe handling techniques.
• Fulfill state regulatory requirements for annual training and continuing education.
• Attend designated meetings.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the Supervisor.

Work Environment

• Works throughout the community/facility, subject to frequent interruptions.
• Interacts with residents, personnel, visitors, government agencies, and others under various conditions.
• May be exposed to hostile or emotionally upset residents, family members, or personnel.
• Involved in community/civic health matters as appropriate.
• Subject to injury from falls, burns, odors, dust, disinfectants, tobacco smoke, and other air contaminants.
• Exposed to infectious waste, diseases (e.g., TB, COVID-19, AIDS, Hepatitis), and hazardous chemicals.

Physical Demands

• Must move frequently throughout the workday and cope with mental and emotional stress.
• Must see and hear (or use prosthetics) to accurately read measurements on resident-related equipment.
• Must function independently, demonstrate emotional stability, and work effectively with residents, employees, and visitors.
• Must relate and work with disabled, ill, elderly, or emotionally upset individuals.
• Stand or walk up to eight hours a day.
• Frequently support up to 70 pounds; occasionally lift/carry up to 50 pounds.
• Frequently kneel, bend, squat, climb, and reach.
• Must assist with the evacuation of residents.
