Caregiver (DSP) - Substitute (On-Call)

About the role

UCP Oregon is expanding its Substitute Team and hiring several Substitute Caregivers to provide one‑on‑one, person‑centered supports to adults who experience disabilities. Caregivers empower clients to live independent and fulfilling lives by assisting with community outings, household chores, medical supports, and personal hygiene. The position offers flexible hours and shift lengths (e.g., 3‑hour, 24‑hour, or anything in between) and includes daytime, evening, overnight, and weekend opportunities across the Portland Metro area, including Oregon City, Milwaukie, and Gresham.

Responsibilities

• Provide individualized, person‑centered support to adults with disabilities.
• Assist with community outings and transportation as needed.
• Help with household chores and personal hygiene tasks.
• Support clients with medical needs and medication reminders.
• Build genuine, long‑lasting relationships with clients and their families.

Requirements

• No prior experience required; training will be provided.
• High school diploma or GED.
• Ability to pass a physical exam, including a 50‑lb lifting test, reference check, and criminal background check.
• Drivers preferred – if driving for UCP, must be at least 18 years old, hold a current driver’s license, have a reliable personal vehicle, at least two years of driving experience, auto insurance, and a clean driving record.

Pay

• $19.55 per hour.
• Annual wage increase based on satisfactory performance.
• Overtime pay for hours worked over 40 per week.
• Holiday pay (double pay for the first 12 hours of any agency holiday shift worked).
• Paid sick leave.
• Mileage reimbursement when driving for UCP.

Schedule

• Flexible work schedule with part‑time and full‑time hours available.

• Shift options range from short (e.g., 3 hours) to extended (e.g., 24 hours).
