Caregiver (DSP) - Kind-Hearted, Engaging Man
About the role
We're seeking a full-time Personal Assistant (caregiver) for a kind-hearted, engaging man who lives in his own apartment in NE Portland. He is easy-going, enjoys independence, and has a variety of interests including watching old-time movies, listening to old country and psychobilly rock albums, meeting friends in the community, and collecting trucks and trains.
You'll support him with daily living activities such as showering, bathroom use, transfers, dressing, and medication administration, as well as household chores and meal preparation. He values independence and seeks an assistant who will listen and encourage his self-sufficiency. His apartment is close to MAX for public transit access, and you'll often use TriMet Lift for community outings.
Schedule
- One shift per week totaling 41 hours: Sunday 9:00 PM – Monday 2:00 PM
- Work your regular hours on agency holidays
Responsibilities
- Assist with daily living activities (showering, bathroom use, transfers, dressing, medication administration)
- Support household chores and meal preparation
- Encourage and facilitate independence
- Accompany him on community outings using TriMet Lift
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED
- Pass pre-hiring screenings: reference check, physical with a 50lb lifting test, and criminal background check
- Driving is optional; if driving for UCP, you must:
- Be at least 18 years old
- Have a current driver’s license
- Own a reliable personal vehicle
- Have at least two years of driving experience
- Maintain auto insurance
- Have a clean driving record
- Experience in the developmental disability field preferred but not required
Benefits
- Starting pay: $18.36 per hour with annual wage increases based on performance
- Overtime pay for hours worked over 40 per week
- Holiday pay (double pay for the first 12 hours of any agency holiday shift worked)
