About the role

The Caregiver Day Shift (6 AM - 2 PM) supports residents with activities of daily living including personal hygiene, socialization, cognition, and physical health. Encourages resident independence, supports resident choice, and preserves resident dignity through professional conduct and interactions.

Responsibilities

  • Adhere to CAPLICO Core Values and Code of Conduct at all times.
  • Ensure compliance with Resident Rights and HIPAA policies.
  • Demonstrate teamwork by communicating with other staff, resolving problems, and assisting other community staff.
  • Provide residents with assistance for personal needs according to the support/care plan, including toileting, bathing, dressing, grooming, mobility, transport, and dining.
  • Practice patience, compassion, and empathy in all interactions with residents; focus on residents’ abilities and encourage independence.
  • Promote improved quality of life for residents through person-centered care and daily interactions, including prompt response to calls for assistance, sensitivity to social and privacy needs, and facilitating participation in activities.
  • Interact and communicate respectfully with residents and family members; refer concerns to nurse or supervisor.
  • Utilize Standard Precautions and follow infection control procedures.
  • Observe and promptly report changes in resident health, behavior, or needs to supervisor/shift leader.
  • Report unusual events, suspicion of abuse/neglect, and emergency situations immediately.
  • Assist residents with dining, including preparing/cleaning the dining room, assisting with food selection, and serving food and beverages; promote a pleasant dining environment and social interaction.
  • Complete resident laundry as scheduled and according to community policy.
  • Clean resident rooms, bathrooms, and common areas according to community protocols and schedules, if assigned.
  • Report maintenance needs promptly and take safety precautions to minimize injury risk.
  • Practice proper body mechanics and safe handling techniques.
  • Fulfill state regulatory requirements for annual training and/or continuing education.
  • Attend designated meetings.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Supervisor.

Requirements

  • Ability to speak and understand the English language.
  • Ability to make independent decisions when circumstances warrant.
  • Ability to deal tactfully with personnel, residents, visitors, and the general public.
  • Ability to remain calm and level-headed in emergencies.
  • Professional appearance and ability to work harmoniously with others.
  • Willingness to adopt new methods and principles into resident care practices.
  • Ability to follow written and oral instructions.
  • Maintain patience, tact, cheerful disposition, and enthusiasm when handling residents, staff, and visitors.
  • High School Diploma or Equivalent.
  • Completion of state-approved Caregiver program, as required by state regulation.
  • Must meet age requirements according to community policy and state regulations.

Work Environment

  • Works throughout the community/facility.
  • Subject to frequent interruptions and interactions with residents, personnel, visitors, and government agencies under all conditions.
  • May encounter hostile or emotionally upset residents, family members, personnel, and visitors.
  • Involved in community/civic health matters/projects as appropriate.
  • Subject to injury from falls, burns, odors, dust, disinfectants, tobacco smoke, and other air contaminants.
  • Exposed to infectious waste, diseases (including TB, COVID-19, AIDS, and Hepatitis viruses), and hazardous chemicals.

Physical Demands

  • Must be able to move frequently throughout the workday.
  • Must cope with mental and emotional stress of the position.
  • Must see and hear or use prosthetics to function adequately (e.g., read measurements on thermometers, monitors, gauges).
  • Must function independently, possess personal integrity, flexibility, and emotional stability.
  • Must be in good general health.
  • Must relate and work with disabled, ill, elderly, emotionally upset, and potentially hostile individuals.
  • Stand/walk up to eight hours a day.
  • Frequently support up to 70 pounds.
  • Occasionally lift/carry up to 50 pounds.
  • Frequently kneel, bend, squat, climb, and reach.
  • Must assist with the evacuation of residents.
