About the role

You go to people’s homes and help them with daily life. Mostly older adults. Baths, getting dressed, meals, light cleaning, errands, companionship. This is physical work—you help people move around and you’re on your feet most of the day. You do not give medicine or do medical tasks; that’s for nurses.

Responsibilities

Be on time; clock in and out via the app or phone
Follow call-off steps if you cannot make a shift
Follow policies and accept clients that match the limits you set
Report incidents within 24 hours
Get good feedback from clients; avoid being the reason a client leaves Haven (most common reasons: frequent call-offs, no-call/no-shows)
Answer office calls and texts quickly
Send updated documents when asked (insurance, license, training)
Complete feedback forms when sent

Requirements

Driver’s license and your own car with insurance that covers work driving
Pass background checks
Work at least 20 hours per week
Available between 6 AM and 8 PM (most work is 8 AM–5 PM)
Legal right to work in the US
Must be at least 18 years old

Qualification Paths

Pick the path that fits you. All four lead to the same job.

Path 1: STNA License (fastest start)

Pay: $18/hour
Need: STNA license in Ohio—active or expired
Timeline: 1–3 days if you move fast

Your STNA means you already passed the state test; you skip our written and skills test entirely.

Path 2: HHA Certificate

Pay: $16–18/hour based on interview
Need: HHA certificate (30+ hours), signed by an RN (unless completed online)
Timeline: 5–8 days to working

Path 3: Experience Under a Licensed Nurse (no certificate needed)

Pay: $16–18/hour based on interview
Need: 1+ year at one company where your supervisor was an RN or LPN
Timeline: 5–8 days after we verify your experience

Valid experience comes from nursing homes, hospitals, Medicare-certified skilled home health agencies, or assisted living with licensed nurses on staff. It does not count if your supervisor was a care coordinator, office manager, or non-medical home care agency.

Ohio law requires us to verify your experience by calling your former employer directly. They must confirm your dates, that you worked there 1+ year, and that your supervisor was an RN or LPN. If your old employer uses The Work Number or has closed, this pathway may not work for you; consider Path 2 or Path 4 instead.

Path 4: No Experience (we train you free)

Pay: $16/hour
Need: Willingness to help people; we teach everything else
Timeline: 1–2 weeks to working

Complete free 32-hour online HHA training at home (6 days to finish, not paid). If you do not finish training in 6 days, we close your application.

HHA Test

Ohio requires all Home Health Aides to pass a competency test. Two parts: written questions and skills demonstration. You need 80% on both. Both parts happen in person at our Cuyahoga Falls office. Already passed an HHA test elsewhere with 80% or higher? Show us your results and you may skip it. STNAs skip the test entirely.

Pay

$18/hour — STNA license (active or expired)
$16–18/hour — HHA certificate or experience, based on interview
$16/hour — free training pathway
$19–20/hour — when you refer and care for a private pay client
10% extra on holidays

Paid every two weeks via direct deposit.

Built-in raises in your first two years:

90-day review: +$0.50/hour
1-year review: +$0.50/hour more
2-year review: +$1.00/hour more

Example outcomes:

$16/hour → 90 days: $16.50 → 1 year: $17.00 → 2 years: $18.00
$18/hour → 90 days: $18.50 → 1 year: $19.00 → 2 years: $20.00

Raises are automatic if you score all 1s (highest) on every evaluation item at each review; otherwise the increase carries over to your next review.

Bonuses

$100 after 30 days with perfect attendance—every shift on time, zero call-offs
$300 when you refer a caregiver who stays—$100 when they hit 60 hours, $200 more at 200 hours
$75–$1,500 when you refer a private pay client, based on their hours

Schedule

Shifts can be as short as 2–3 hours per visit; some are 4–6 hours; some are 8 hours
You’ll usually have several clients across different days to reach 20+ hours per week
“Flexible” means the days and times you told us you can work; it does not mean calling off whenever you want
Attendance is part of the raise criteria

Document Verification

Federal law requires us to verify your identity and work authorization. During orientation you’ll show original documents on camera; you choose which documents to bring.

You’ll need your driver’s license and proof your car insurance covers work driving.
