Richwood Nursing & Rehab is seeking a Part-Time Caregiver to work 11pm to 7:00am at our Oaks Assisted Living Facility in Oldham County, LaGrange (Exit 22 from Hwy 71 - Cherrywood Subdivision).
About the role
The primary purpose of your job position is to provide each of your assigned residents with routine daily care and services in accordance with the resident’s assessment and care plan, and as directed by your supervisors.
Responsibilities
- Use PCC to ensure correct resident information when assisting with ALDS, meals, etc.
- Report all changes in the residents’ condition to the Health and Wellness Director as soon as practical.
- Record all entries on notes, SPAs, and incident reports in an informative, descriptive manner.
- Report all accidents and incidents observed on the shift to the Executive Director and Health and Wellness Director.
- Agree not to disclose resident’s protected health information and promptly report suspected or known violations of such disclosure to the Executive Director.
- Report any known or suspected unauthorized attempt to access the community’s information system.
- Perform only those care tasks that you have been trained to do.
- Ensure that the resident’s room is ready (e.g., bed made).
- Greet residents and escort them to their room; introduce residents to roommates and other personnel as appropriate.
- Make residents comfortable, inventory and mark personal possessions, and store resident’s clothing.
- Assist residents with packing personal possessions when transferring rooms or being discharged.
- Transport residents to new rooms or the receiving area; assist with loading/unloading residents to/from vehicles.
- Create and maintain an atmosphere of warmth, personal interest, and positive emphasis, as well as a calm environment.
- Meet with nursing personnel regularly to identify and correct problem areas or improve services.
- Report all complaints and grievances made by residents.
- Participate in and receive the nursing report as instructed.
- Follow established policies concerning exposure to blood/body fluids.
- Make beds and add extra covers as requested; check residents unable to call for help frequently.
- Answer resident calls promptly and check residents routinely to ensure personal care needs are met.
- Assist residents with identifying food arrangements (e.g., informing residents with sight problems of food location, temperature).
- Keep residents’ water pitchers clean, filled with fresh water, and within easy reach.
- Perform after-meal care (e.g., remove trays, clean residents’ hands, face, clothing).
- Perform all assigned tasks in accordance with established policies and procedures.
- Follow work assignments and schedules to complete assigned tasks.
- Cooperate with inter-departmental and facility personnel to maintain services for residents.
- Notify the facility when late or absent from work.
- Report occupational exposures to blood, body fluids, infectious materials, and hazardous chemicals.
- Assist residents with daily functions (e.g., dental and mouth care, bathing, dressing, undressing).
- Keep residents dry by changing gowns, clothing, and linens when wet or soiled.
- Assist residents in preparing for medical tests (e.g., lab work, x-ray, therapy, dental).
- Assist with lifting, turning, moving, positioning, and transporting residents (e.g., into and out of beds, chairs, bathtubs, wheelchairs, lifts).
- Perform restorative and rehabilitative procedures as instructed.
- Check residents routinely to ensure personal care needs are met according to their wishes.
- Observe and report pressure areas and skin breakdowns to prevent decubitus ulcers (bedsores).
- Report injuries of an unknown source, including skin tears.
- Observe disoriented and comatose residents; record and report data as instructed.
- Perform special treatments as instructed.
- Immediately notify the Nurse of any resident leaving or missing from the facility.
- Use only equipment you have been trained to use; report defective equipment to the Nurse Supervisor/Charge Nurse.
- Maintain confidentiality of all resident care information, including protected health information.
- Report known or suspected incidents of unauthorized disclosure of resident information.
- Report all allegations of resident abuse and/or misappropriation of resident property.
- Honor the resident’s refusal of treatment request and report such requests to your supervisor.
- Give back rubs as instructed.
- Assist residents with dressing/undressing, hair care (e.g., combing, brushing, shampooing), and nail care (e.g., clipping, trimming).
- Shave male residents and keep hair on female residents clean (e.g., facial hair, underarms, legs).
- Assist residents with bowel and bladder functions (e.g., take to bathroom, offer bed pan, urinal, portable commode).
- Maintain intake and output records as instructed; keep incontinent residents clean and dry.
- Check and report bowel movements and character of stool as instructed.
- Provide eye and ear care (e.g., hearing aid installation, cleaning eyeglasses/hearing aids).
- Assist in preparing the resident for physical examination; weigh and measure residents as instructed.
- Measure and record temperatures, pulse, and respirations (TPRs) as instructed.
- Assist with the care of the end-of-life resident and post-mortem care as instructed.
Requirements
- Must possess, as a minimum, a high school education or its equivalent.
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
- Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
- Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from managers and employees.
- Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
- Ability to solve practical problems and deal with variables in situations with limited standardization.
- Ability to interpret instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Suite products.
Physical Demands
- Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
- Prolonged use of a desktop or laptop computer.
- Regularly required to sit, stand, walk, talk, read, or hear.
- Frequent use of office-related equipment (e.g., copier, scanner, fax, telephone, calculator).
