About the role

The Future Ready Pathway Career Navigator supports high school students in all phases of their journey into and through the Future Ready Center (FRC). The Career Navigator assists with identifying and recruiting students, guiding them through career exploration, monitoring academic progress, coordinating Individualized Plan of Study (IPS) development, job shadowing, and work-based learning. Upon program completion and graduation, the Career Navigator helps students with post-secondary plans, including FAFSA completion, college applications, resume building, and job placement. Additional responsibilities include aligning career mentoring, professionalism lessons, job readiness skills, and summer internships or employment.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborates with high school building principals (or designee) and the Assistant Superintendent of High Schools to provide relevant data pertaining to graduation rate, student scholarships, career interests, and student participation.
  • Collaborates with the FRC principal to recruit students, including leading tours, organizing field trip experiences, giving presentations at high schools, and engaging with community groups.
  • Assists in the day-to-day operation of assigned FRC locations and scheduling of students for FRC classes.
  • Coordinates middle school field trips for the FRC Experience.
  • Holds advising sessions with FRC students and ensures completion of enrollment forms.
  • Develops relationships with community and business organizations to support career and college opportunities for students.
  • Conducts resume-building workshops and ensures all students have a professional resume, including credentials earned at the FRC.
  • Implements a mock interview process for students.
  • Assists students in securing internship and job shadowing opportunities and placements.
  • Monitors FRC students' progress and attendance, creating action plans for struggling students.
  • Performs additional duties as assigned by supervisor.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • Experience in a related educational field preferred.
  • Knowledge of resources available to assist students with college or work plans.
  • Ability to lead student groups and facilitate discussions.
  • Intermediate computer proficiency, including Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint (testing may be required).
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills.
  • Excellent people and communication skills.
  • Professional manner and ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Ability to organize, make decisions, and work independently under departmental policies and goals.
  • Ability to perform a variety of tasks, adapt to changing assignments, meet deadlines, and work efficiently under pressure.
  • High level of customer service and professionalism.
  • Knowledge of the district’s mission, purpose, goals, and the role of every employee in achieving them.

Physical and Mental Demands

  • Attendance at required meetings and in-services.
  • Some evening and weekend work required.
  • Ability to perform all tasks and work scheduled hours without direct supervision.
  • Ability to use SMART boards, iPads, and basic office equipment (computers, copiers, scanners, fax machines) in compliance with USD 259’s guidelines.
  • Occasional travel may be required.

Interrelations

  • Contact with personnel within the district, customers, and vendors.
  • Works under the direct supervision of the department supervisor to complete day-to-day tasks.
  • Works with a diverse population, requiring tact and diplomacy in all situations.
  • Must understand and respond appropriately to customer needs while maintaining a positive attitude.
  • Expected to interact with all internal and external customers in a friendly, professional manner and provide responsive customer service.
