Job Overview
The Northern Training Consortium (NTC) has a part-time (0.4 WTE) opportunity to co-ordinate work based training across the healthcare science career framework, principally within the physical and physiological sciences. The NTC is considered an exemplar training consortium by the National School of Healthcare Science.
Main duties of the job
- Responsible for the day-to-day running of the NTC
- Perform a range of advanced healthcare science activities
- Line-manage or mentor trainees across the range of teams within the consortium, and act as Training Officer for STP trainees across all specialisms
- Participate in the teaching and training commitments of the service
- Maintain and develop high standards of service provision throughout their area of responsibility
- Contribute to the development, implementation and monitoring of clinical and organisational strategies within area of expertise
- Initiate, in collaboration with the line manager, the development and delivery of research and development activities for healthcare advancement
Person specification
- Qualifications & Education
- Essential criteria: A First- or Second-Class Honours Degree in an appropriate subject, a post-graduate degree at master’s or PhD level, or equivalent level of specialist knowledge, Registered Clinical Scientist
- Desirable criteria: Corporate membership of a professional body, Coaching, mentorship or leadership qualification
- Knowledge & Experience
- Essential criteria: Highly specialist up to date in-depth knowledge and understanding of the application of physical and engineering sciences and/or physiological sciences, Highly specialist in-depth knowledge and understanding of current UK legislation and regulations pertinent to working area, and the protection of staff, patients and members of the public, In depth knowledge of training programmes across the HCS career framework, In depth knowledge of human anatomy and physiology, Evidence of knowledge of current scientific and technological developments in healthcare science, Knowledge of Governance issues including ethical and regulatory considerations, Experience of teaching and training at postgraduate level, Experience of leading and completing clinical and scientific research and development projects
- Desirable criteria: Evidence of attendance at conferences or training courses intended to extend the breadth and depth of knowledge

- Essential criteria: Ability to interpret data, analyse problems and evaluate solutions, Excellent written and oral communication and presentation skills, Training, teaching & mentoring skills, Good IT skills, Ability to liaise effectively with staff at all levels and across the range of clinical, scientific and administrative disciplines, Ability to work on own initiative, Ability to give scientific and technical advice to colleagues, senior clinicians, and other professionals, Ability to carry out research and development working as part of a team, Ability to undertake complex calculation, data analysis and to issue reports on quantitative techniques, Good report writing and presentational skills, including the production of scientific papers, reports and conference presentations
