Position Summary
The Career and Education Coach is responsible for empowering Members with the tools, education, and resources to create a foundation in permanent self-sustainability. This involves facilitating career development and educational support, addressing related barriers, and ensuring each Gatehouse family reaches a sustaining wage before Program graduation.
Job Duties
- Implement and manage higher education, financial literacy, and career services areas of the Gatehouse Program.
- Stay current on employment/education trends, research, and industry information, including living wage per family size and relevant degree/certification options.
- Develop short and long-term career and higher education goals for Members based on career plans and local/national employment trends.
- Maintain and review Member’s career and academic progress with Members, Program Manager, and support team to ensure they remain on track to meet Program education and income goals.
- Guide Members through best practices in higher education and career development, such as resume writing, job search strategy, clinical/internship support, mock interviewing, workplace conflict/communication, professional dress, social media presence, scholarship opportunities, financial aid/FAFSA, and long-term post-graduation goals.
- Create and maintain partnerships with local and national scholarship organizations, supporting Members with scholarship and grant opportunities as needed.
- Create and maintain partnerships with local area employers, hiring managers, staffing agencies, colleges, universities, and other relevant organizations to increase on-site support resources for job seekers and students.
- Participate in support team meetings, Member Review sessions, and serve as the primary point of contact for all Member career and higher education needs.
- Meet with Members to address education and career development-related needs outside of regular business hours, when needed.
- Collaborate with Success Coaches to ensure all Members reach target income goals within key deadlines of the Gatehouse Program.
- Provide physical and digital resources on the financial literacy component of The Gatehouse Program.
- Collaborate with Success Coaches to ensure all Members have access to financial planner support during each applicable phase of the Program.
- Plan and execute career, education, and personal development events throughout the year.
- Input accurate and complete data for all contact with Gatehouse Members into agency database.
- Ensure all documents submitted on behalf of a Member are valid and submitted by established deadlines.
- Manage Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), reports, budgets, and data integrity associated with career development, education, and financial literacy services.
- Participate in staff meetings, staff trainings, company events, and other Programs events as requested to support organizational goals.
- Adhere to The Gatehouse’s guidelines, procedures, and ethics and ensure compliance with all state and local employment laws.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree from four-year college or university in related field, Master’s degree preferred.
- Active career services certification through NCDA, CCE, or other career certification entity preferred.
- Gallup-Certified Strengths Coach highly preferred.
- A minimum of 3 years of related experience and/or training required.
- Proficient computer skills required: Microsoft Office Suite (proficient in MS Excel); Data Management Software.
- Demonstrates detail-orientation and ability to foster and build relationships.
- Professional presentation and demeanor.
- Able to navigate difficult conversations.
- Able to work flexible hours to meet the needs of Members outside of regular business hours.
- Able to work independently with a strong sense of focus, task-oriented, nonjudgmental approach, and a clear sense of professional boundaries and respect for confidentiality.
- Reinforce the mission and Christian foundation of The Gatehouse by modeling and integrating Biblical principles and Christian philosophy throughout all activities and interactions related to this position.
Physical Requirements and/or Working Conditions
- Safely and successfully perform essential job functions consistent with the ADA and other federal, state, and local standards.

- Perform tasks sitting at a desk and working on a computer for prolonged periods.
- Maintain flexibility to bend, crouch, walk, kneel, and sit for prolonged periods.
- Maintain manual dexterity for typing, writing, standing, and reaching.
- Maintain acuity to read information from computer screens, forms, and other printed materials and information.
- Be able to lift and move objects and equipment up to 20 pounds.
- Work evening or weekend hours and respond to emergency calls as needed.
