Hiring Department: Office of Engineering Career Services

About the role

The Career Development Specialist supports professional development and employment opportunities for students in the College of Engineering. This role works collaboratively to represent the College to employers, including alumni, and assists students with professional skill development, internship and job searches, and other career-related concerns under the supervision of the Associate Dean and Director of Recruitment and Retention.

Responsibilities

  • Supports College of Engineering student organizations, including advising, budget proposal processes, and travel support.
  • Coordinates the annual budget proposal process and bi-annual trainings for student organizations.
  • Advises engineering students on resume refinement and internship searches.
  • Maintains knowledge of the engineering industry, particularly regarding internship, co-op, and full-time positions, as well as competitive regional employers.
  • Collaborates on Handshake student-facing functions, such as employment opportunity notifications, resume reviews, and event promotion.
  • Works with Engineering Marketing and Communications to promote employment opportunities in This Week in Engineering.
  • Supports Outcomes survey data collection (following each term) and experiential education survey (fall semester).
  • Coordinates with campus Outcomes staff on data collection and publishing.
  • Collaborates on critical projects, including employer relations support, the Career Readiness program, and the MU Career Center.
  • Responds to student inquiries via the ECS resource account (muecs@missouri.edu).
  • Serves as the lead ECS representative for classroom visits and Engineering events (e.g., New Student BBQ, Family Weekend, Summer Welcome, Welcome Week).
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • A Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience, with at least 1 year of relevant experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Humanities, Business, Education, or a related field.
  • Familiarity with the engineering industry and corporate recruitment practices.
  • Experience with internship and co-op programs for engineering students.
  • Ability and willingness to multitask.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience working in higher education and an interest in STEM education and career paths.

Schedule

Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m., with occasional events and travel required outside of normal hours. Regular onsite work is required.

Pay

Salary Range: $20.00 - $27.00 per hour
