Career Development and Job Placement Counselor

About the Role

This is a full-time, hybrid role based in Anacortes, WA, with some work-from-home flexibility. The Career Development and Job Placement Counselor provides individualized career counseling, job readiness coaching, and employment placement support for Samish Indian Nation members.

Responsibilities

• Assess career interests and skills of tribal members.
• Develop personalized career plans.
• Coordinate training and education opportunities.
• Assist with resumes, cover letters, and interview preparation.
• Work closely with regional employers, educational institutions, and workforce partners to identify job and internship opportunities.
• Advocate for participants in the job market.
• Track outcomes and maintain accurate documentation.
• Prepare reports and collaborate with tribal programs to align services with the Tribe’s mission and vision.

Qualifications

• Strong career counseling and guidance skills, including experience with assessment, career planning, and job search coaching.
• Skills in building community and employer partnerships, including networking, outreach, and relationship management.
• Organizational and case management skills, including documentation, follow-up, and progress tracking.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to work respectfully with diverse populations and maintain confidentiality.
• Familiarity with workforce development, training programs, and local labor market trends, preferably in Northwest Washington.
• Relevant education such as a bachelor’s degree in counseling, social work, education, human services, or a related field is beneficial; equivalent experience may be considered.
• Experience working with Tribal communities, Indigenous organizations, or culturally responsive services is highly beneficial.
• Proficiency with common office software, virtual meeting tools, and basic data reporting is beneficial.
