About the role

Delivers counseling services to assigned residential and non-residential students focusing on personal and social development, career employment, and behavior management.

Responsibilities

  • Contact assigned students prior to scheduled arrival to welcome them and provide information about the center, behavioral standards, and expectations.
  • Meet and greet assigned arrivals at the designated time on the center or at the determined travel termination point.
  • Provide ongoing intensive interventions with students accumulating NIRs, unexcused absences, intervention case notes.
  • Conduct and document an intake assessment, including student history, during the first 24 hours of enrollment.
  • Schedule and conduct monthly group support sessions designed to identify and address specific issues.
  • Ensure each assigned student attends a group or enhancement program.
  • Support, collaborate with other staff, and establish and develop personal and career goals for students.
  • Manage and monitor case load with frequent classroom visits to observe students and interact with staff.
  • Collaborate with residential, recreation, career transition, and instructional staff to case manage student progress, concerns, and achievement of PCDP and other goals.
  • Identify students needing more intensive services and refer them to such services, ensuring intervention, implementation, and documentation of strategies to address personal issues.
  • Document individual counseling sessions in RAP format: Reason for session, Assessment, and Plan of action with appropriate follow-up.
  • Ensure all documentation occurs same day as contact and maintain confidentiality of personal information.
  • Collaborate with students to initiate a Personal Career Development Plan (PCDP), document personal career goals, training needs, challenges, and progress.
  • Update PCDP on an ongoing basis, in cooperation with appropriate staff, using the Job Corps automated system.
  • Ensure availability of counseling services on weekends and in the event of emergencies.
  • Provide support services, including assisting with UA retrieval, conferring with parents, admissions counselors, career transition specialists, and providing referrals to community resources.
  • Interact and share information with other departments and community resources to ensure the coordinated delivery of services to students.
  • Maintain ongoing evaluations of students with appropriate staff, at least every 60 days.
  • Provide each student with a schedule of individualized projects and activities to assist in meeting Career Success Standards.
  • Participate in Career Management Team (CMT) panels when students are being recommended for transition into CPD and CTR/CTS.
  • Ensure PCDPs are updated, resumes are uploaded, transitional needs assessments are completed, and referrals are made.
  • Record job search strategies on PCDPs.
  • Conduct and document UA retrieval efforts in CIS and forward UA occurrence documentation to student records.
  • Afford students return transportation, at their request and expense.
  • Monitor, encourage, support, and enforce center attendance rules.
  • Aid students in requesting and obtaining approval of leaves and passes.
  • Safeguard minor students in accordance with the limitations established by their parents or guardians.

Qualifications

  • Proficiency with advanced Microsoft Office applications including Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Excel.
  • Computer literacy with basic computer functions, email, internet, and basic programs such as Adobe Acrobat.
  • High level of communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
  • High level of ability to motivate, inspire, and counsel students effectively.
  • Knowledge of career planning, job search strategies, and interview preparation.
  • One year experience in counseling or related field.
  • Bachelor's degree, including 15 semester hours of instruction in social services-related instruction.
  • Valid State Driver's License.
