Full-time position located in Ponca City, OK. Primary working hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM. FLSA status: Non-Exempt. Minimal travel required, mainly for training.

About the Role

This role involves managing and promoting career assessment and vocational counseling through applicant interviews and qualification evaluations. The Career Coordinator will determine employment needs, job skills, placement, training, and referrals under a case management system, ensuring optimal delivery of employment services. The position focuses on priority services to special-needs clients and ensures required information is recorded in EmployOklahoma.

Responsibilities

  • Manage career assessment and vocational counseling via applicant interviews and qualification evaluations.
  • Utilize EmployOklahoma for registering customers for employment, unemployment services, and additional education/training services.
  • Establish claims for Unemployment Insurance benefits, interpret multi-state unemployment insurance laws, analyze claims for accuracy, conduct fact-finding, and maintain Unemployment Insurance files with priority service to special-needs clients.
  • Communicate with management, employers, applicants, claimants, and coworkers regarding job orders, referrals, job developments, and unemployment insurance benefits; prepare clear, concise reports as needed.
  • Professionally manage career assessment, vocational counseling, job placement, and other social services in conformity with Department of Labor’s state and federal laws, prioritizing veterans and special-needs applicants.
  • Provide excellent customer service to ensure optimal results for workforce center activities, maintaining a friendly office atmosphere.
  • Assist with resource room activities, including unemployment insurance eligibility, filing claims, and training on UI functions.
  • Support workforce center receptionist duties as assigned.
  • Participate in team meetings, required training, and cross-training to provide professional and timely assistance.
  • Operate office machinery in accordance with safety and security protocols.
  • On-site attendance is essential for direct interaction with staff, clients, and office resources.

Qualifications

  • Five years of experience in employment services, career or vocational guidance and counseling, personnel, recruitment, training, customer services, or social services related work.
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience: thirty semester hours from an accredited college or university may substitute for three years of the required work experience.

Skills

  • Knowledge of: spelling, punctuation, business English, business mathematics, modern office methods, employment practices, economic/social trends, community/social service providers, interviewing principles, social assistance requirements, U.S. Department of Labor one-stop workforce initiatives, laws/rules/policies of public employment service, unemployment compensation, job training, social services programs, occupations/industries, basic psychology, and human relations.
  • Skills and Competencies: excellent verbal and written communication.
  • Ability to: maintain effective working relationships, work independently, deal courteously with people, multitask, exercise good judgment in evaluating eligibility and case management situations, make decisions, resolve problems, handle confidential work, present ideas effectively, interpret state/federal laws (especially veterans programs and social services), and follow oral/written instructions.
  • Computer Skills: Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Outlook, Excel, Access, Teams) and the Internet; capable of learning other software as needed.
  • Capable of lifting, carrying, and moving objects up to 25 pounds.

Physical Demands

Work is typically performed in a climate-controlled office setting with moderate noise levels. The role requires regular periods of sitting or standing, daily use of a computer and phone, and occasional use of office machinery. The employee must be able to talk, stand, walk, and reach with hands and arms.

Pay

Annual salary of $40,948.00; hourly rate of $19.69 ($19.686538).
