About the role
The Career Consultant provides a variety of educational, vocational, and personal counseling services to JTEC adult participants relative to their future employability. They design, plan, implement, facilitate, and teach group and individual career skills workshops. They complete the client's applications, assess client potential using established methods, and develop a realistic training and employment plan. They monitor client progress and activities, and work closely with community organizations, staff, and supervision personnel to ensure a smooth flow of services to the client.
Responsibilities
- Accurately records information about work history, work and training related issues/barriers, income and other data needed to determine eligibility and appropriateness for services.
- Affords assistance in developing a realistic career/employment plan by reviewing client’s educational background, test results, work experience, and occupational interest through the assessment process.
- Continuously develops and maintains clients’ career/employment plan and writes narrative reports to document client’s progress and counseling sessions throughout enrollment and for specified periods after termination in order to enhance and achieve job retention.
- Plans, coordinates, facilitates, and provides individual and group workshops to participants covering a variety of personal, vocational, and educational related topics.
- Collaborates with Staffing Executives/OJT Vendors and participates on a regular basis as a member of the Case Management Team to follow the progress of clients seeking employment.
- Works with the client to develop and improve job seeking and job retention skills.
- Responsible for managing a substantial client caseload and ensuring positive program outcomes that are in compliance with WIOA performance standards, applicable laws, regulations, and policies.
- Ensures that financial records are timely and accurate and maintains financial records as related to the client’s employment and training activities (i.e., contracts, financial aid, contract modifications, deobligation of funds, supportive services and distribution of client payroll).
- Collaborates assigned client activities with training site vendors and staff. Resolves conflicts and client performance issues to promote successful completion of training leading to employment.
- Networks and maintains effective communication with community agencies and services responsible for supportive services, gathers information and makes referrals, as necessary.
- Manages special projects and training programs as assigned to ensure their successful implementation and completion.
- Promotes JTEC programs through the use of media and provides informational presentations to community agencies, services, and organizations in the public and private sectors.
- Performs assigned duties in a professional and businesslike manner and in accordance with JTEC policies and procedures.
- Performs other related duties and developmental tasks as required.
Requirements
- Working knowledge of individual and group counseling, interviewing, screening and assessment techniques.
- Working knowledge of social, environmental, economic, and cultural factors affecting disadvantaged persons.
- Knowledge of area labor market needs, vocational training vendors, community resources and requirements for various employment opportunities.
- Knowledge of ethical standards for counselors.
- Knowledge of educational learning concepts and motivation techniques.
- Ability to administer vocational assessments and interpret results.
- Ability to teach basic, intermediate, advanced academics and computer literacy.
- Ability to promote JTEC in a professional and businesslike manner.
- Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing with clients, vendors, employers, and agencies.
- Ability to conduct and instruct clients in group and one-on-one situations.
- Ability to research and collect data.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate with individuals from diverse socioeconomic and multi-cultural backgrounds.
- Demonstrated ability to design, facilitate, teach, and implement curriculum, evaluation systems and forms and coordinate materials to deliver workshops and classroom instruction.

$52,000 and $58,000.
