About the role
The Career Coach is responsible for assessing participant's job readiness and employment needs, developing career plans, securing employment opportunities, conducting workshops, and maintaining accurate documentation.
Responsibilities
- Interviews participants to assess service needs.
- Develops a career plan that identifies participant interests, goals, needs, and intervention and placement strategy.
- Identifies problem areas and service gaps and implements the career plan.
- Assesses customer’s job readiness and recommends strategies to enhance their marketability.
- Identifies and secures employment opportunities that match the skills and interests of assigned program participants.
- Participates in job search and placement events, promoting teamwork, professionalism, courtesy, and customer satisfaction.
- Conducts job readiness workshops covering topics such as job seeking skills, effective interviewing techniques, resume writing, workplace conduct and appearance.
- Performs employment verification and retention for participants, including employer visits, home visits, and extensive telephone and mail communication.
- Follows up with assigned participants to ensure their needs and the employer's needs are met.
- Maintains knowledge of current labor market and occupational trends.
- Implements prescribed program-related procedures; provides ongoing career coaching and serves as a liaison between customers, service providers, and employers.
- Manages a comprehensive caseload, ensuring accurate documentation of case records.
- Makes recommendations to management on policy and procedures changes.
- Uses personal computer to input information and maintain case reporting in MIS database and performs other related duties as assigned.
- Contributes to the team effort by performing other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in a human services, related field or equivalent experience in Employment and Training Programs.
- One to two years of experience in recruitment, employment, training, marketing or a related field.
- Bilingual language skills in English/Spanish.
- Interpersonal skills necessary to effectively communicate and build professional relationships with employers and program participants.
- Computer skills necessary to utilize word processing and maintain required documentation.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Access) and online sourcing tools with functional knowledge of internet use for search platforms.
- Mental ability to handle pressures related to meeting placement goals and dealing with multiple individuals from diverse backgrounds and varying levels of need.
- Willingness to work a flexible schedule.
- Valid Michigan Driver's License.
- Reliable transportation.
