About the role

This open competitive advertisement is for a Career Service position located at Dade Correctional Institution in the Education Department. This position is for a Career and Technical Education (CTE) teaching position in Wastewater. Our mission in the Education Department is to provide comprehensive educational programs and services to inmates. Our goal is to enhance inmates' academic, vocational, and life skills, thereby promoting personal development and successful reintegration into society. By offering quality education and training, we aim to reduce recidivism and support inmates in becoming productive, law-abiding citizens.

Job Duties

  • Plans, develops, and conducts classes in assigned subjects, utilizing various teaching techniques to assist student advancement.
  • Supervises inmates in the class, conduct roll calls, counts, and maintain attendance records.
  • Ensures order, discipline, tool control, and safety in the classroom and/or shop.
  • Evaluates student progress, administers grades and tests, and counsel’s individuals on program progress, behavior, or personal concerns.
  • Participates in staff meetings, seminars, and workshops for curriculum changes and professional development, and assist in budget preparation and purchase requests for the education program.

Requirements

  • A high school diploma or its equivalent and three (3) years’ experience in the CTE subject area being taught; or
  • Possession of current licensure or certification(s) in the CTE being taught or a postsecondary certificate of completion (must submit transcript/certificate of completion) may substitute for up to one (1) year of the required experience.
  • Must hold the applicable subject area license or industry certification or be willing to possess within 12 months of hire.
  • Possess or be eligible to apply for a Temporary Florida Department of Corrections Educator’s Certificate or if applicable a temporary State of Florida Educator's Certificate.
  • A Department of Corrections Educator’s Professional Certificate must be obtained prior to the expiration of the Temporary Certificate.
  • A class C Water and/ or Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator License.
