Career and Technical Counselor

About the Role

The Career and Technical Counselor provides comprehensive academic, career, and personal counseling services to Career-Technical Education students. This position supports student success by assisting with educational planning, career exploration, academic advising, and student retention while collaborating with faculty and staff to meet the diverse needs of the student population.

Requirements

• Master's degree in counseling or related field with at least 24 semester hours of graduate coursework in guidance or counseling.
• Minimum of two (2) years of teaching or related professional experience in employment counseling, academic counseling, or a closely related field.
• Five (5) or more years of related experience is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Provide students with current occupational and career information to support informed career decision-making.
• Select, administer, and interpret career assessment instruments, including interest, aptitude, personality, and intelligence assessments, in accordance with professional and ethical standards.
• Provide academic advising and assist students with educational and career planning.
• Offer personal counseling services using accepted counseling methods within appropriate professional and ethical guidelines.
• Coordinate orientation, testing, student records, and job placement activities in collaboration with Special Populations personnel.
• Provide counseling and academic support services to evening students.
• Advise and counsel students who are on academic probation or identified as being at risk of academic probation.
• Assist students with course selection, registration, schedule changes, and late registration.
• Review and evaluate academic transcripts to assist students by telephone or other approved communication methods, as needed.
• Maintain accurate student records and documentation in accordance with institutional policies.
• Collaborate with faculty, staff, and administrators to promote student success and retention.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the Dean for Career-Technical Education.

Term: 12-month, full-time, non-exempt position.
