CAREER AND FINANCIAL COACH

About the Role

Neighbors, Inc. is a non-profit social service agency with over 50 years of experience serving Dakota County and surrounding communities. We provide high-dignity basic needs services, including Hunger Relief, Clothing, Community Resources, and recently launched Financial Empowerment services to help lift communities out of poverty. Supported by over 400 active volunteers and 22 staff, Neighbors is a pillar of support and unity in our community, offering assistance to those in need while empowering individuals to move towards self-sufficiency.

Position Overview

The Career and Financial Coach works closely with leadership to develop and deliver the Career and Financial Empowerment Program. This role involves providing person-centered, strength-based coaching to clients to improve their financial capability and wellbeing. The coach also assists clients lacking stability in their basic needs. This is a full-time, non-exempt position supervised by the Financial Empowerment Center Manager.

Responsibilities

• Case Management (60%):
  • Provide financial coaching and education in 1:1 and small group settings to reduce asset poverty and wealth divides.
  • Support financial growth through job-based coaching, educational pathway guidance, and employment self-advocacy.
  • Facilitate goal setting and support clients in achieving their goals.
  • Assist clients in organizing and implementing strategies to build or rebuild credit.
  • Conduct needs assessments, make referrals, and assist with program applications.
  • Educate clients on low-cost, convenient, and transparent financial products.
  • Provide work readiness training, including resume development, soft skills, and interview assistance.
  • Administer support services and incentives to program participants.
  • Build relationships with businesses to create family-sustaining wage opportunities.
  • Participate in program planning, implementation, and evaluation.
• Outreach (20%):
  • Build community awareness through recruitment, outreach, and informational sessions.
  • Develop partnerships for accessible referrals.
• Data Entry (20%):
  • Maintain accurate documentation on participant enrollees.
  • Submit data to internal and funder platforms (e.g., Apricot, Workforce One).
  • Compile reports for program evaluation.

Other Duties

• Assist with answering agency phones and holiday programming as needed.

Qualifications

• Required:
  • 1–3 years of experience in financial and/or job coaching.
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Preferred:
  • Familiarity with local and surrounding communities.
  • Bilingual: Spanish/English.

Skills and Abilities

• Assess social, economic, emotional, and health needs of diverse populations.
• Knowledge of personal finance, financial products, and services.
• Facilitate access to social-economic programs and services.
• Create pathways to employment for diverse populations.
• Proficiency in motivational coaching techniques.
• Ability to prioritize tasks, work independently, and collaborate effectively.
• Experience with CRM databases (e.g., Salesforce, Apricot, Workforce One) and Microsoft Office.
• Discretion in handling confidential information.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to bend, sit, stand, and lift up to 25 pounds.
• Sit at a desk for extended periods.

Additional Information

Eligible for employment in the United States. Periodically work evenings and weekends. Pass criminal, credit, and vehicular background checks.
