Mitchell Hamline School of Law is seeking a full-time Career Advisor to support students in developing their careers and securing employment during and after law school.

Responsibilities

  • Career Advising
    • Provide one-on-one counseling to law students on career development and job search strategies.
    • Stay informed about trends and developments in the legal industry.
    • Assist students in exploring career paths and gaining relevant experience.
    • Partner with students to develop job search strategies, polish application materials, practice interview skills, and formulate negotiation strategies.
    • Use 12twenty to track engagement activities with students and employers, ensuring accurate and up-to-date records.
    • Track and report on student employment outcomes.
    • Reach out to assigned students at least once per school year.
    • Develop collaborative relationships with student organizations to share resources.
    • Advise students on experiential learning opportunities in coordination with team members.
  • Programming and Materials
    • Develop, plan, and execute career-related programming and events.
    • Create and maintain job search resources, such as tip sheets, job postings, and networking opportunities.
  • Employer Outreach
    • Stay informed about employment opportunities and career paths to advise students effectively.
    • Build and maintain relationships with potential employers.
    • Coordinate with externship hosts for timely vetting and maintain externship records.
    • Perform additional projects and tasks as required by department needs.

Qualifications

  • Minimum Qualifications
    • Bachelor’s degree.
  • Preferred Qualifications
    • Master’s degree in Counseling, Higher Education, or a related field.
    • 3+ years of experience in recruitment, career advising, student services, or academic advising.

Skills

  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including collaboration, conflict resolution, problem-solving, and decision-making.
  • Strong organizational and planning skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Ability to work effectively with a diverse student and alumni population.
  • Ability to work independently without close supervision.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Willingness to work occasional nights and weekends as required.

Pay

The anticipated salary range for this position is $53,000 - $74,000 per year, depending on qualifications.
