Care Support

We have an exciting opportunity to join our Pathways Service, which delivers high-quality day services for adults with complex needs, Monday to Friday. Two permanent positions are available: one 35-hour post based at Spennymoor Pathways Hub and one 22-hour post based at Peterlee Pathways Hub.

About the role

Pathways Hubs are vibrant, inclusive environments that provide tailored support and meaningful opportunities for adults with learning disabilities, autistic people, and those with complex needs, promoting health, wellbeing, and independence. This role involves supporting young people and adults with learning disabilities and complex needs, including individuals whose behaviours may challenge, within a day service environment operating Monday to Friday, 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM.

As part of a dedicated team, you will:

• Provide personal care, support with eating and drinking, and administer medication
• Undertake specialist tasks such as PEG feeding, suction support, and stoma care
• Support individuals to participate in meaningful activities, including arts and crafts, cookery, music, and sensory therapies
• Work closely with healthcare professionals to deliver specialist support programmes, including hydrotherapy, postural care, and sensory-based activities

All staff receive regular supervision, ongoing support, and access to a comprehensive training and development programme.

Requirements

You will have proven care or support experience, either in a professional or personal capacity, and demonstrate key attributes such as being naturally caring, patient, and understanding. Experience supporting people with complex needs is advantageous but not essential.

Qualifications

• NVQ Level 2 in Care or a willingness to achieve the qualification within a set timescale

If successful, you will be required to apply for a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) Enhanced Disclosure. This role is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974, and the DBS check will include a review of both spent and unspent convictions, cautions, reprimands, and warnings, as well as checks against the Children’s Barred List and Adults Barred List.

Schedule

Monday to Friday, 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM.

Interviews will be held the week commencing 24th August 2026. The council operates a guaranteed interview scheme for applicants who meet all essential criteria and identify as disabled, a looked-after young person, care leaver, or veteran.
