About the role
The Adult Pulmonary Stepdown Unit at Vanderbilt Health is a dynamic and team-oriented department caring for adult patients aged 18 to 100+ who are undergoing various treatments post-lung transplant procedures, post-lung transplant complications, pulmonary-hypertension, post-endoscopic lung volume reduction procedures, interstitial lung disease exacerbations, patients listed for lung transplant requiring hospital admission, and ECMO graduates. Patient care here requires a multifaceted approach.
Responsibilities
- Aid in the delivery of patient care and maintenance of unit environmental standards under the supervision of a licensed nurse.
- Facilitate efficient and safe patient care and flow by following work area standards.
- Serve as a liaison for communication and education of patient and family needs.
- Maintain supplies, equipment, and unit environmental standards.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED (or equivalent experience).
- One of the following:
- Current enrollment in a professional nursing RN program with successful completion of the first semester (including nursing fundamentals clinical).
- Graduation from a Nursing Assistant or Aide Training Program within the past year (certificate of completion required).
- Minimum of one year of recent experience (within the past two years) as a care partner, nursing assistant, or patient care technician.
Qualifications
- One year of previous experience in a hospital setting preferred.

Skills
- CLINICAL COMPETENCIES (Novice): Competence with interventions such as point of care testing, vital signs, etc.
- CARE PARTNER PATIENT DOCUMENTATION (Novice): Independent patient documentation.
- ENVIRONMENT OF CARE (Novice): Ability to set up and maintain patient rooms, supplies, and equipment.
- PLANNING & ORGANIZING (Novice): Anticipates resource needs, identifies tasks, and organizes work.

Pay
$20.00 - $25.00 per hour based on experience and qualifications.
Schedule
Full-Time Day Shift - 6:45 am - 7:15 pm (three 12-hour shifts/week)
Shifts rotate throughout the week. Note: Set schedules are not available. Schedules are determined by unit clinical staffing needs.
