About the role

Vanderbilt University Medical Center is located in Nashville, Tennessee, and operates globally. The department focuses on treating adult patients aged 18 and older for various neurological conditions such as ischemic and hemorrhagic stroke, brain and spinal tumors, cerebrovascular intervention, seizures, altered mental status, chronic migraines, subdural hematomas, and Parkinson's.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with the delivery of patient care and maintenance of unit environmental standards under the supervision of a licensed nurse.
  • Facilitate efficient and safe patient care and flow by following work area standards.
  • Serve as a liaison for communication and education of patient and family needs.
  • Maintain supplies, equipment, and unit environmental standards.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED (or equivalent experience).
  • One of the following:
    • Current enrollment in a professional nursing RN program with successful completion of the first semester (including nursing fundamentals clinical).
    • Graduation from a Nursing Assistant or Aide Training Program within the past year (certificate of completion required).
    • Minimum of one year of recent experience (within the past two years) as a care partner, nursing assistant, or patient care technician.

Preferred

  • One year of previous experience in a hospital setting.

Technical Capabilities

  • Clinical Competencies (Fundamental Awareness): Demonstrates sufficient fundamental awareness to assist and perform clinical care including but not limited to vital signs, phlebotomy, specimen collection, and point of care testing as directed by unit standards.
  • Care Partner Patient Documentation (Fundamental Awareness): Has limited experience or training working with clinical applications for patient documentation.
  • Environment of Care (Fundamental Awareness): Has limited experience or training working with set up and maintenance of patient rooms, supplies and equipment.
  • Planning & Organizing (Fundamental Awareness): Demonstrates ability to understand basic resource needs, identify discrete tasks, define dependencies, schedule activities, meet deadlines, and organize work for own assignments and responsibilities. Understands and identifies with the basic goals and values of the organization.

Position Qualifications

  • Experience: Less than 1 year of relevant work experience.
