Job Description Summary
The Mechanical Circulatory Support (MCS) Coordinator is a hybrid role that combines advanced clinical expertise with administrative responsibilities for the MCS Department. This role involves coordinating comprehensive, specialized care for advanced heart failure patients who are candidates for MCS therapy, managing postoperative care for those implanted with MCS, and overseeing ongoing outpatient management of those with MCS in place. The MCS Coordinator reports to the MCS Program Manager and is responsible for ensuring optimal patient care and departmental goals through efficient operations and compliance with established rules, regulations, and guidelines. They also promote interdisciplinary collaboration across the organization.
About the Role
The MCS Coordinator assists in coordinating the care of mechanical circulatory support patients, using current protocols to assist in their medical care and participating in the research process by maintaining accurate data.
Responsibilities
- Assists in coordinating comprehensive, specialized care for advanced heart failure patients who are candidates for MCS therapy.
- Manages postoperative care for those implanted with MCS.
- Oversight of ongoing outpatient management of those with MCS in place.
- Aids in the research process by maintaining accurate data.
- Ensures the achievement of optimal evidence-based patient care and departmental goals through efficient daily operations and compliance with established rules, regulations, and guidelines.
- Promotes interdisciplinary collaboration across the organization.
- Provides leadership presence and patient/staff support by providing coverage 24/7, 365 days/year.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in nursing required and three years related nursing experience.
- Licensure as a registered nurse by the South Carolina Board of Nursing or a compact state.
- Some positions may require certification as a generalist in a related specialty area by the American Nurses Association (ANA).
- Current American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) certification or American Red Cross BLS for Healthcare Providers certification is required.
Qualifications
- Physical requirements include ability to stand, sit, walk, climb stairs, work indoors, work outside in temperature extremes, work from elevated areas, work in confined/cramped spaces, perform job functions from kneeling positions, bend at the waist, twist at the waist, squat, perform pinching operations, perform gross motor activities with fingers and hands, perform firm grasping with fingers and hands, perform fine manipulation with fingers and hands, reach overhead, perform repetitive motions with hands/wrists/elbows and shoulders, use lower extremities for balance and coordination, reach in all directions, lift and carry 50 lbs. unassisted, lift/lower objects 50 lbs. from/to floor from/to 36 inches unassisted, lift from 36" to overhead 25 lbs., exert up to 50 lbs. of force, maintain 20/40 vision, corrected, in one eye or with both eyes, have good peripheral vision capabilities, maintain hearing acuity, with correction, perform gross motor functions with frequent fine motor movements, deal effectively with stressful situations, work rotating shifts, work overtime as required, work in a latex safe environment, maintain tactile sensory functions, and if selected, maintain good olfactory sensory function and be qualified physically for respirator use, initially and as required.
