About the role

The Technologist performs diagnostic testing and assists with interventional procedures, ensuring the delivery of quality patient care. This includes X-ray and interventional procedures in Cardiac Catheterization and Electrophysiology Labs, supporting coronary and peripheral interventions, closure device implants, electrophysiology studies, ablations, and device implants.

The Technologist operates diagnostic equipment, including peripheral equipment, in a safe and efficient manner to obtain optimal test results, manages the patient during procedures to meet quality care standards, and ensures supplies are maintained. This role also involves scrubbing in during procedures, computerized documentation of procedure events, and participating in on-call duties.

The position supports organizational goals through quality customer service, performance improvement efforts, and teamwork. Additionally, the Technologist may participate in preceptoring new employees or clinical education activities.

Responsibilities

  • Perform diagnostic testing and assist with interventional procedures according to established departmental procedures.
  • Operate diagnostic equipment, including X-ray and peripheral equipment, safely and efficiently.
  • Manage patients during diagnostic and interventional procedures to ensure quality care.
  • Maintain supplies and report equipment problems to appropriate staff.
  • Scrub in during interventional procedures and document events electronically.
  • Participate in on-call duties as required.
  • Support Interventionists and other team members during procedures.
  • Participate in preceptoring new employees or clinical education activities.
  • Engage in performance improvement efforts and demonstrate teamwork.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited radiological technologist school.
  • 1-2 years of interventional cardiology experience required; peripheral experience preferred.
  • Licensed by the State of New Jersey, Department of Environmental Protection.
  • BLS for Healthcare Providers (BLSHCP) certification required.
  • Registry or Registry Eligible with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT); if registry eligible at hire, registration is required within one year.
  • ACLS certification required within 12 months of hire or transfer.
  • Proficiency in Clinical Applications preferred at hire; training will be provided, and proficiency required within 90 days.
  • Ability to multitask with attention to detail in a fast-paced environment.
  • State license must be renewed annually; ARRT certification must be renewed on the incumbent’s date of birth.

Work Environment

  • Potential exposure to hazards and risks of the hospital environment, including bloodborne pathogens, infectious diseases, and hazardous substances.
  • Exposure to radiation.
  • Considerable reaching, stooping, kneeling, and crouching.
  • Extensive standing (while wearing lead) and walking, including stairs.
  • Frequent lifting of approximately 25-50 pounds; occasional lifting of 50-100 pounds with assistance.
  • Pushing and pulling of heavy equipment.
  • Transporting patients on stretchers unassisted.
  • Manual dexterity required for handing off instruments and maneuvering in small, congested work areas with cords, foot pedals, and equipment consoles.
  • Moving patients from beds/stretchers to procedure tables and vice versa.
