About the Role
Performs duties in the Cath Lab related to diagnostic and interventional procedures, including but not limited to:
- Diagnostic right and left heart catheterizations
- Pacemaker/ICD insertion
- Coronary interventions (balloon pump insertion, PTCA’s, Atherectomy (Laser and Rotablator), Stent, IVUS)
- Myocardial biopsy
- Peripheral angiography and interventions
- Pericardiocentesis
- Other cardiology procedures as assigned
Functions as a member of the Regional Cath Lab Team to provide a safe, efficient environment. May require travel, working, and call coverage between Boise and Nampa Cath Lab departments as needed. Maintains accurate and complete documentation of care provided and serves as a patient advocate. Utilizes resources wisely while promoting physical, spiritual, and emotional well-being.
Requirements
- Must hold one of the following certifications:
- Registered Radiologic Technologist (RT) by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT)
- Registered Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist (RCIS) by Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI)
- Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) by the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC)
- Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers certification from AHA, ARC, or Military Training Network (required at hire unless currently certified in ACLS and/or PALS as defined in the SAHS Certification Crosswalk)
- Prior experience as a staff member in a hospital Cath Lab or Radiology Department (Special Procedures) preferred
- Other certifications may be required as identified in the SAHS Certification Crosswalk
Responsibilities
- Knows, understands, incorporates, and demonstrates the Organization’s Mission, Vision, and Values in behaviors, practices, and decisions.
- Demonstrates knowledge and skills to competently care for all assigned age groups (Adolescent, Adult, Geriatric as applicable).
- Ensures accuracy in documenting services and supplies provided to patients (Revenue Management).
- Demonstrates compliance with hospital safety policies and procedures.
- Performs all duties in the Cath Lab, including scrubbing, monitoring, and circulating:
- Preparing and administering medications as directed by physician (Boise Only)
- Performing and understanding digital imaging, including dose management and radiation protection for staff and patients
- ECG and Hemodynamic monitoring
- Prepares and assists in administering contrast agents, monitoring dosages, and determining potential allergies in compliance with department policies.
- Anticipates and responds to the needs of physicians and patients.
- Communicates clearly with patients regarding the purpose and extent of procedures.
- Contributes to comprehensive physical and psychosocial assessments.
- Participates in patient education based on assessed needs.
- Contributes to the development and implementation of a plan of care based on patient needs.
- Communicates patient’s current status and plan of care to other caregivers (verbally and in writing).
- Prepares, administers, and evaluates the effectiveness of medications (Boise Only).
- Demonstrates safe operation of patient care equipment.
- Advocates for patient rights and collaborates with patients to alleviate or reduce pain.
- Demonstrates therapeutic communication and establishes professional boundaries.
- Integrates knowledge, experience, professional standards, and hospital policies into practice.
- Meets unit-specific technical skills.
