Position Summary
The Cardiovascular Cath Lab Tech assists physicians during invasive cardiac and peripheral diagnostic and interventional procedures. The technologist is responsible for maintaining a sterile environment, operating specialized cardiac equipment, monitoring patient hemodynamics, and supporting advanced circulatory devices, including Impella and intra-aortic balloon pumps (IABP).
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare procedure rooms, sterile trays, and specialized equipment for cardiac catheterization procedures.
- Aid physicians during diagnostic and interventional cardiac and peripheral procedures.
- Support temporary and permanent pacemaker placements.
- Aid with circulatory support devices, including Impella and IABP.
- Set up, calibrate, and monitor hemodynamic equipment.
- Obtain, calculate, and analyze hemodynamic data, cardiac output, and oximetry readings.
- Operate power injectors and associated sterile equipment.
- Assist with patient positioning and monitoring.
- Maintain digital imaging and cardiovascular information systems (CVIS).
- Aid with vascular access, sheath removal, radial band application, and hemostasis.
- Recognize and interpret cardiac arrhythmias.
- Maintain inventory and ensure procedure readiness.
- Follow radiation safety protocols and infection prevention standards.
- Participate in the department's on-call rotation.
- Perform routine equipment maintenance and quality checks.
- Safely lift up to 40 lbs., push/pull up to 100 lbs., and stand for extended periods.
Required Experience
- Minimum 3 years of recent Cardiac Cath Lab experience.
- Strong experience assisting with invasive cardiac procedures.
- Experience with Impella and Intra-Aortic Balloon Pump (IABP) is required.
- Experience with permanent pacemaker placement is preferred.
Preferred Experience
- Mac-Lab experience.
- EPIC electronic medical record experience.
Education
- Graduate of an accredited Cardiovascular Technologist, Radiologic Technologist, or Applied Science program.
- Associate or bachelor’s degree in a health science field preferred.
Required Certifications
- BLS (AHA)
- ARRT (American Registry of Radiologic Technologists) preferred
- Radiology Certification preferred
Additional Requirements
- ACLS must be obtained within 3 months of employment (if not already held).
- RCIS certification or Radiologic Technologist License within one year of hire (facility requirement) is preferred.
