Cardiovasc Invasive Specialist - PRN

About the role

PRN – Flexible work schedule: 7a–4p or 8a–5p, Monday–Friday. Some shared responsibilities at both sites – Cardiac Rehab and the main hospital campus (5 miles apart).

Certifications & Licenses

• ARRT-R (American Registry of Radiologic Technologists – Radiography) and MRT (Medical Radiologic Technologist) through the Texas Medical Board or RCIS, RCES, CEPS, or CCDS certification.
• Must obtain within 30 days of hire/transfer:
  • ACLS
  • BLS

Responsibilities

• Assist physicians during catheterization/electrophysiology lab procedures, including arteriograms/catheterizations, permanent pacemaker implantations, implantable cardiac defibrillators, diagnostic and interventional peripheral and coronary procedures, and thrombolytic therapy.
• Follow national and state radiation protection regulations for patients, self, and staff.
• Provide emergency care (CPR, defibrillation, etc.) as needed.
• Perform pre- and post-procedure care and monitoring.
• Orient and prepare patients for procedures; answer questions to reduce anxiety.
• Monitor ECG, pressures, temperature, and impedances in the Electrophysiology Lab; notify physicians of variances.
• Operate RF/Cryo ablation systems, 3D mapping, and document procedural details.
• Manage and maintain images (e.g., stenosis testing, formatting, processing) for cardiac and peripheral cases.
• Collect registry and quality data; prepare procedure reports.
• Prepare and maintain sterile fields; order and maintain inventory of supplies.
• Ensure equipment is functional, calibrated, and within expiration; coordinate inventories and maintenance.
• Orient and train new staff and students; participate in performance improvement initiatives (daily, monthly, quarterly).
• Contribute to mutual governance, departmental, hospital, or professional committees (e.g., LEAN initiatives, NOBLE, 5S projects).
• Transport patients to and from procedural areas.
• Demonstrate strong customer service skills.

Qualifications

• Education and/or experience (must meet one of the following):
  • Associate’s degree in a related field, or
  • Completion of a U.S. military training program with experience equivalent to an Associate’s degree, or
  • 2 years of related cardiovascular lab experience.
• Must be available for on-call response per facility/department policy.
• Knowledge of cardiovascular anatomy and physiology; ability to apply complex invasive cardiac and vascular instrumentation and techniques.
