Cardiothoracic Operating Room Nurse - Full Time $10,000 Sign on Bonus

About the Role

Responsible and accountable for assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating the care for the peri-operative patient in accordance with the plan of care, established hospital and departmental policies, procedures, and standards of care. Communicates findings as indicated to appropriate persons and documents same in the patient's medical record. Manages and oversees the care and services provided by ancillary and other professional personnel. Manages supplies and other equipment within the unit.

Develops and maintains a collaborative and collegial relationship with physicians and interdepartmental personnel as they relate to the care of the surgical patient. Participates in marketing operating room services to the medical staff. Maintains a competent peri-operative skill level to ensure the provision of safe, quality patient care.

• Provides professional nursing care sensitive to the needs of patients, families, and fellow co-workers.
• Plans and provides professional nursing care for patients in accordance with age-specific needs and any identified cultural diversity needs (such as religions, lifestyles, beliefs, physical capabilities, and cultures).
• Assures appropriate and effective pain management.
• Assesses, reports, and assists any patients that present with evidence of abuse and/or neglect.
• Supports the mission of Mercy.
• Adheres to Mercy Hospital safety and infection control policies to maintain a safe environment for patients and co-workers.
• Ensures the philosophy, mission, goals, objectives, policies, and procedures of Mercy are followed.
• Knowledge of room setup, instruments, and equipment needs (including setting up the sterile field and troubleshooting equipment) specific to the specialty area.
• Knowledge of mixing and/or administration of all specialty products (e.g., medications, hemostatic agents).

Requirements

• Graduate of an accredited nursing school.
• Successful completion of medication administration math competency test.
• RN licensure in the state of practice.
• Six months of operating room (OR) experience at Mercy Hospital.
• Proficient in Level I requirements as defined per policy.
• ACLS certification (if not current, coworker will be scheduled in the next available class).
• CPR certification.
• Provide annual in-service specific to clinical ladder specialty area, as defined per policy.

Preferred Qualifications

• One year of medical-surgical experience and/or one year of operating room experience.
• Progressive leadership skills.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to push, pull, and/or lift 50 lbs on a regular basis.
• Prolonged standing and walking during each shift.
• Ability to grip, reach, bend, kneel, twist, and squat to perform duties.

Schedule

40 hours per week, 8-hour shifts (5x8). Rotating weekends, holidays, and call.
