Job Overview

Operates and assesses monitoring of patients in the Cardiac Catherization Lab. Administers individualized, professional patient care through efficient knowledge and safe practice of cardiac catherization lab procedures. Assumes responsibility for patient care and monitoring before, during and after procedures. Executes special assignment with the lab. Participates in quality improvement programs and inventory control. Uses an understanding of the principles of growth and development to assess each patient’s age specific needs and provide age specific treatment and care.

Qualifications

  • Graduate from an accredited Cardiovascular Technology program
  • Minimum of 2 years clinical experience
  • Certifications and Licenses Required:
    • Current RCIS (Registered Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist) certification or Radiology license
    • BLS certification required (American Heart Association)

Scheduling Requirements

  • Full Time
  • 40 hours/week
  • With On-Call Service

Essential Functions

  • Correctly marks images ensuring accuracy of image identification.
  • Ensures patient comfort, physical and mental well being during the procedure
  • Explains procedures, keeps patient informed of progress and assists patients in transferring onto/off examination table for procedures.
  • Observes equipment for proper functioning and reports malfunctions to supervisor.
  • Performs Daily Xray checks as assigned.
  • Properly uses the Information System to arrive, change if necessary and complete cases.
  • Utilizes equipment to perform post processing of images.
  • Acts as preceptor/trainer as needed for new technology and procedures. Serves as resource person for all disciplines.
  • Affords assistance with prompt room turnover.
  • Affords assurance of all data required for study is obtained, accurate, and valid. Recognizes normal and reports abnormal hemodynamic values and waveforms.
  • Demonstrates flexibility in response to unexpected changes in work volume, emergencies, staffing and schedule changes.
  • Functions as a team member in the cardiac catheterization lab as pre/scrub and circulating assistant, operating information system.
  • Maintains stock level through inventory control and reports to supervisor when ordering is necessary.
  • Maintains an understanding and working knowledge of monitoring equipment, information system, and emergency equipment. Reports problems promptly to supervisor. Notifies biomed, engineering or helpdesk as appropriate.
  • Maintains an understanding and working knowledge of department specific equipment & information system. Functions as resource person.
  • Manages GE hemodynamic monitoring system, acts as preceptor and super-user. Appropriately manages placing service call and follow up with service team. Manages changing & storage of optical disks.
  • Monitors cardiovascular & hemodynamic patient status during Cardiac Catheterization Lab procedures; monitors status of EKG, BP and respiratory and informs appropriate disciplines; documents status congruently with nursing staff.
  • Prepares patients in a timely fashion for various procedures and accepts sites.
  • Provides instructions for patients, including pre-, post and follow-up procedures.
