About the role
A Cardiac Step-Down RN is a registered nurse who provides care for patients recovering from cardiac procedures, surgeries, or events like heart attacks. This role operates between the ICU and the general medical-surgical floor.
Responsibilities
- Communicate unanticipated patient care events and risk management activities to the Director and/or House Supervisor
- Effectively utilize nursing personnel, assist with scheduling, staffing, and assignments
- Supervise and evaluate staff, assist with performance evaluations, and manage HR activities
- Assess supplies and equipment, ensure proper use and functionality, and maintain par levels
- Collaborate with other department managers/supervisors to enhance patient flow and admission/discharge/transfer processes
- Assess patient care delivery and quality, document consistently, and direct staff to make immediate changes in the plan of care
- Interview patients/families on admission and during rounds to enhance positive patient experiences and provide orientation
Requirements
- Current valid State Registered Nurse License
- BLS (AHA) certificate upon hire and maintain current
- One full year as an Registered Nurse
Qualifications
- Completion of Critical Care Course preferred
- Current ACLS (AHA) certificate 30 days upon hire and maintain current preferred
- Minimum of one year experience as a staff RN in acute care hospital, critical care preferred
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred
