Responsibilities

  • Performs echocardiography studies, including M-mode, 2D, Doppler, color flow, and spectral Doppler imaging, following established protocols
  • Conducts stress echocardiograms (exercise and pharmacologic) and pediatric echocardiograms
  • Affixes and removes Transesophageal Echocardiograms (TEE’s) under the guidance of physicians, ensuring patient safety
  • Collaborates with Registered Nurse (RN) to perform echocardiograms utilizing Ultrasound Enhancing Agents and bubble studies as indicated
  • Educates patients on procedures and provides clear instructions to ensure cooperation and comfort
  • Maintains the percentage of suboptimal exams below the established performance benchmark
  • Adheres to and supports all accreditation standards, assisting in maintaining IAC echocardiography accreditation
  • Oversees Holter monitor services, including application, disconnection, programming, and functionality checks
  • Ensures timely data retrieval, report preparation, and follow-up for physician review
  • Applies and removes cardiac long-term monitoring devices in accordance with established procedures
  • Manages and reviews data using designated software platforms; prepares and finalizes reports for physician interpretation
  • Serves as a technical resource and mentor to sonographers and support staff
  • Captures and maintains accurate documentation of findings using the echocardiography reporting system
  • Coordinates daily workflow, staff assignments, and coverage to optimize efficiency and patient care
  • Develops and manages the team schedule, ensuring adequate coverage across all shifts and services
  • Assists with training, onboarding, and ongoing competency assessment of sonographers
  • Maintains compliance with IAC standards
  • Communicates and collaborates with third-party partners (e.g., Philips, Lantheus) and participates in quality assurance initiatives, case reviews, and process improvement projects
  • Communicates with cardiologists, nursing staff, and leadership to ensure continuity of care and service excellence
  • Assists with quality improvement efforts
  • Develops and conducts education programs in areas of expertise for staff and patients
  • Completes 12-lead EKGs and performs required paperwork and documentation
  • Demonstrates the ability to serve patients of all ages in the routine performance of duties
  • Maintains the unit and equipment

Qualifications

  • Minimum of an Associate’s Degree in Cardiovascular Technology and at least 3 years of experience in echocardiography
  • Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer board certification required within 6 months of hire date through ARDMS or CCI
  • BLS required
  • Strong background in cardiopulmonary anatomy, physiology, and pathology
  • Ability to identify cardiac arrhythmias and dysrhythmias
