About the Role
Under general supervision, produces images and/or diagnostic tests of designated anatomical areas as requested in order to provide Radiologists or Cardiologists with diagnostic information.
Responsibilities
- Review procedure requisitions for appropriateness and document order completion in the Hospital Information System.
- Document pertinent patient information according to department policies, including procedure-specific forms and history assessment.
- Provide explanation of procedure, discharge information, and expectations of test completion and availability of results.
- Operate imaging equipment (Ultrasound units and non-invasive physiologic units) according to established procedures.
- Prepare images for interpretation by completing required printing and post-processing protocols for appropriate archive retention.
- Utilize appropriate immobilization and safety techniques to protect patients from safety risks.
- Meet the individual physical and mental needs of patients during procedures, including comfort, privacy, confidentiality, and timely communication.
- Perform equipment calibrations and quality control testing.
- Maintain work area and equipment through proper use, routine cleaning, and ensuring adequate supplies.
- Maintain skills and knowledge to provide care appropriate to the age and ability of each patient.
- Assist patients, family members, physicians, visitors, and employees in a friendly, cooperative manner.
- Follow infection control procedures at all times.
- Follow hospital policies for safety and comply with specific department responsibilities during fire drills or alarms.
- Perform daily inspection of the disinfection system in accordance with department policy.
- Responsible for prompt reporting of any malfunction of equipment to supervisors.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Must be registered or registry-eligible by the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers in Echo and a registered RVT.
