Responsibilities
- Constantly observe cardiac monitors and alert nursing staff to changes in tracings.
- Maintain a log of telemetry patients, including patient identifiers, monitor identification numbers, and rhythm documentation.
- Document rhythm interpretations and validate cardiac alarms.
- Coordinate clerical functions to ensure smooth operations.
- Evaluate telemetry patients at the start of each tour and document changes.
- Obtain rhythm strips and notify RNs of any changes in rhythm.
- Perform monitor counts and validate monitoring status.
- Recognize and address potential equipment malfunctions.
- Clean monitors and lead wires after each patient use.
- Summarize rhythm tracings and record outcomes.
- Participate in performance improvement activities.
Requirements
- High school graduate or equivalent (GED).
- One year of Patient Care Assistant/Unit Secretary (PCA/US) or LPN experience.
- BLS certification or achievement within first 90 days of employment.
- Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English.
- Completion of Cardiac Telemetry Monitoring training course and EKG rhythm interpretation.
- Pass quarterly testing with 100% recognition of life-threatening dysrhythmias and 80% overall.
- Monthly rhythm testing with passing score after two attempts.
Qualifications
