About the role
This position performs a wide range of clerical duties in support of assigned patient care departments, with a focus on extensive monitoring of cardiac telemetry and hard-wire monitored patients. It involves monitoring a specified number of patients for pulse oximetry and capnography, analyzing ECG strip waveform displays, and ensuring the accuracy of patient admissions, discharges, and transfers.
Responsibilities
- Maintains cardiac monitoring for all telemetry and hard-wire monitored patients, identifying changes and addressing alarms.
- Documents patient’s cardiac rhythm and reports any abnormal variations or life-threatening events to medical and nursing staff.
- Utilizes Wave Strip Export to upload patient data to the EPIC system.
- Maintains pulse oximetry monitoring for assigned patient populations.
- Ensures accuracy of patient information on the Epic/Telemetry Dashboard.
- Assembles and distributes telemetry packs, batteries, and electrodes to nursing staff.
- Troubleshoots malfunctioning equipment and notifies appropriate personnel.
- Greets and admits patients, maintaining smooth communication and functioning within the department.
- Performs routine clerical tasks such as intrahospital communications, mail distribution, and office supply management.
- Maintains patient records and departmental records for accurate and complete documentation.
- Facilitates communication between departments and provides information to visitors and patients as needed.
- Coordinates patient transportation and ensures efficient intradepartmental and interdepartmental operations.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Obtain certification in Heartsaver OR Basic Life Support within 30 days of hire.
- Successful completion of a Basic Dysrhythmia course.
Qualifications
- Graduate of Technical Education Program or Medical Assistant Program.
Skills
- Manual dexterity for operating standard office equipment.
- Ability to sit for long periods of time.
- Visual acuity within normal limits.
- Ability to monitor multiple cardiac rhythms, pulse oximetry, and capnography waveforms for sustained periods.
- Basic computer knowledge and proficiency in standard office software.
- Knowledge of medical terminology.
- Good verbal and written communication skills.
- Basic troubleshooting skills for technology issues.
