Responsibilities

  • Teaches patients about research project and procedures
  • Participates in special projects
  • Serves as preceptor of new employees in cardiac cath
  • Circulating and scrubbing for all types of cardiac catheterization procedures
  • Provides general patient care to cardiac catheterization patients
  • Sets up and runs equipment
  • Performs basic cardiac catheterization procedures

Requirements

  • Post high school course work in anatomy, physiology, and medical terminology
  • College coursework in health care; biological science or related disciplines preferred
  • Professional degree or certification when commonly associated with the professional experience the candidate possesses
  • Minimum education and certification required to become a Registered Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist or required licensure and appropriate degree as a Licensed Practical Nurse
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Life Support (ACLS) certification through the AHA
  • Other advanced life support certifications may be required per unit/department specialty according to patient care policies
  • 1-2 years of cardiac catheterization lab and/or electrophysiology lab experience; leadership or supervisory experience preferred
  • Knowledge of all types of cardiac catheterization procedures and/or electrophysiology procedures and related equipment and instruments
  • Knowledge of scrubbing and circulating techniques in order to actively assist with cardiac catheterization procedures and/or electrophysiology procedures
  • Able to prep; select; program; reprogram and troubleshoot cardiac catheterization equipment
  • Able to stay knowledgeable about new data and equipment technology
  • Able to assess patient at all times and to teach patient about research projects and tests
  • Able to serve as preceptor to Cardiac Catheterization Specialist I employees and new employees assigned to the Cardiac Catheterization Specialist II position
  • Thorough knowledge of cardiac and emergency procedures
  • Able to be on 24-hour call for emergency procedures

Qualifications

  • Prefer Registered Cardiovascular Technician experience
  • Prefer precepting experience obtained in a cardiac cath lab and/or electrophysiology lab
  • Prefer satisfactory completion of RCVT examination
