About the Role

As a Cath Tech at Michigan Medicine, you will deliver exceptional care in a nationally recognized top ten cardiovascular center. The role includes monitoring, circulating, and scrubbing on a patient population with known or suspected congenital or acquired cardiac and peripheral disease. You will join a cohesive team working alongside world-renowned physicians while performing interventional cardiac, structural heart, and peripheral procedures using some of the newest and most advanced equipment. Responsibilities

  • Participate in research protocols and engage in peer-to-peer teaching or in-servicing.
  • Demonstrate exceptional critical thinking skills.
  • Perform technically difficult emergency care, including:
    • Emergent PCI
    • LVAD & RVAD placement
    • IntraAortic Balloon Pump use
    • Thrombectomy (after proper orientation)
  • Utilize tools such as Optical Coherence Tomography, Intravascular Ultrasounds, Fractional Flow Reserve, and atherectomy (after additional training).
  • Successfully perform structural heart procedures (after proper orientation).

Requirements

  • A Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Some experience in a catheterization laboratory.

Physical Requirements

This position requires moderate standing/walking, as well as lifting, positioning, pushing, and/or transferring patients.

Qualifications

  • Desired:
    • Experience with interventional and structural heart procedures, surgical instruments, and sterile technique.
    • Existing ARRT with advanced certification for CV or VI.
    • Existing RCIS certification.
    • ACLS certification.
    • Understanding and demonstration of the core concepts of Patient and Family Centered Care (PFCC), including: Respect and Dignity, Information Sharing, Participation, and Collaboration.
  • Preferred (one of the following):
    • RCIS certification or eligibility for the RCIS exam as a graduate of an accredited program in Invasive Cardiovascular Technology, with the exam completed within one year of hire.
    • American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) certification for Radiography with at least 1-2 years of diagnostic general imaging experience, and ARRT advanced certification for Cardiac Interventional (CI) required within 2 years of hire.
    • Graduate of a diploma, associate, or baccalaureate academic program in health science (e.g., cardiovascular technology, ultrasound, radiologic technology, respiratory therapy, nursing, or paramedic/EMT), with the RCIS exam completed within two years of hire.

Schedule

This is a full-time, 36-hour-per-week position. On-call duty is required, with a 30-minute response time.

Work Location

Positions are on-site at the Frankel Cardiovascular Center, Cardiac Procedures Unit. Hybrid or remote work options are at the discretion of the hiring department and subject to annual review.

This position may be underfilled at a lower classification depending on the qualifications of the selected candidate. It is covered under the collective bargaining agreement between the University of Michigan and the United Michigan Medicine Allied Professionals (UMMAP).
