Carceral Medicine with the Maine State Department of Corrections, Warren, ME

To provide the GME learner with clinical experience in a carceral setting.

Conducting medical intakes for newly incarcerated residents.
Addressing previously diagnosed chronic conditions and screening for acute medical needs.
Providing annual residential health assessments, including annual preventive screening and chronic disease care.
Addressing acute needs through a daily sick call system, which may include performing procedures, drawing labs, etc.
Participating in Hepatitis B and C management team meetings.
Working with Nurse Practitioners who have extensive experience providing health care for incarcerated individuals.
Observing and understanding dental issues in this population.
