Captain
A USCG licensed officer serving as backup to the vessel captain.
Responsibilities
- Safely navigate the vessel
- Serve as supervisor for handling of gear
- Maintain safe practices aboard the ship
- Collaborate with Bristol Wave operations team to refine and improve business plan
Working in the Bering Sea
- Physically and mentally demanding work
- Long hours in remote locations, often several days from nearest port
- Deck and processing crews work 16-hour shifts, 7 days a week
- Trips typically last 4-5 weeks, but can vary from 10-12 days to 60+ days
- Crew members generally work multiple trips (2 months or longer) in a single rotation
Compensation, Travel & Expenses
- Crew share percentage of net adjusted sales
- 40% of net sales goes to officers and crew
- All travel arranged and paid for by the company
- Includes flights, hotels, and meals while traveling
Requirements
- USCG licensing required: 500 GT near coastal uninspected fishing master's license (or greater)
- Ability to navigate effectively and comply with all related regulations
- Familiarity with handling all vessel gear
- Maintain safe practices and conduct safety drills
- Drill Instructor certification required
- HACCP certification required
- Properly allocate crew shares based on performance
- Maintain discipline in accordance with company policy
- Administer required random and post-accident drug screenings
- Specimen collector certification required
- Willingness to work with operations and human resources management to continuously improve the business plan
- Pass pre-employment drug screening (commercial fishing falls under federal authority)
- Pre-employment background check required
