Capital Projects Engineering Manager
About the role
This Engineering Manager role leads capital projects and day-to-day engineering operations at a GMP-regulated manufacturing site focused on health products such as tablets and related formulations. You will oversee a portfolio of capital projects ranging from mid-size to large-scale investments, manage a team of engineers, and collaborate closely with production and cross-functional teams to optimize plant performance.
Responsibilities
- Lead and manage all engineering functions at the site, including capital planning, budgeting, and execution of improvement and expansion projects.
- Oversee a portfolio of capital projects ranging from approximately $500K to $24M in spend, managing multiple projects in parallel and ensuring on-time, on-budget delivery.
- Direct and supervise a team of 4–5 engineers, providing clear direction, coaching, and performance management to build a high-performing engineering organization.
- Cook up and coordinate engineering activities with production and operations teams to ensure uninterrupted plant operations, optimal utility performance, and efficient use of resources.
- Analyze production and facility challenges, identify root causes, and recommend and implement engineering solutions that enhance efficiency, safety, quality, and reliability.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives across the plant, using engineering and project management methodologies to improve processes, reduce waste, and increase throughput.
- Ensure compliance with all relevant regulatory standards, including GMP, FDA, ISO, SOPs, and environmental and safety requirements, and maintain robust quality systems.
- Represent the site during inspections and ensure readiness for regulatory and quality reviews.
- Develop, implement, and maintain standard operating procedures (SOPs) and engineering best practices to support consistent, compliant, and efficient operations.
- Manage engineering budgets, cost control, and forecasting for capital and operational expenditures, ensuring financial discipline and alignment with business objectives.
- Lead cross-functional project teams, coordinating with production, quality, EHS, supply chain, and other stakeholders to deliver projects that meet operational and business needs.
- Promote and enforce safety standards and practices within the engineering team and across the plant, ensuring compliance with OSHA and environmental regulations.
- Provide ongoing technical support for existing equipment and systems, overseeing troubleshooting, reliability improvements, and lifecycle management.
- Champion a culture of accountability, ownership, and continuous learning within the engineering function, encouraging innovation and proactive problem-solving.
- Communicate project status, risks, and mitigation plans clearly and regularly to site leadership and cross-functional partners.
Requirements
- Proven experience managing both people and capital projects in an engineering leadership role, including full project lifecycle from concept through implementation and ongoing support.
- Minimum of 8 years of experience in a GMP-regulated manufacturing environment, specifically in engineering site leadership and project execution.
- Strong project management skills, including planning, scheduling, resource allocation, risk management, and project control in a manufacturing setting.
- Demonstrated ability to lead and develop engineering teams, providing firm, decisive, and visionary leadership while juggling multiple tasks and priorities.
- Experience working within regulated manufacturing environments with solid knowledge of quality systems such as GMP, ISO standards, and SOPs.
- Familiarity with safety, environmental, and regulatory requirements relevant to manufacturing operations, including OSHA, EPA, and FDA expectations.
- Bachelor’s degree in an Engineering discipline.
- Hands-on experience with capital projects in manufacturing, including cost control, budgeting, and forecasting.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities to diagnose production and facility issues and implement effective engineering solutions.
- Effective communication and collaboration skills for working cross-functionally with production, quality, and other operational teams.

Schedule
Full-time position based out of Salt Lake City, UT.
Pay
The pay range for this position is $140,000.00 - $160,000.00/yr.
