Capital Project Manager
Pay Rate: PL 14 – $82,500–110,000. Multiple factors, including individual experience, skills, and abilities, will determine placement within the range.
Schedule: Salaried, full-time. Significant travel required.
About the role
This position provides expert leadership and management during the Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) phases of capital projects. The Project Manager typically joins during the Front-End Loading (FEL) development phases of the Project Delivery Process (PDP). Key customers include Investment Managers, Capital Projects Leaders, Business Unit Managers, Facility Managers, and Business Leadership.
Responsibilities
- Manage all engineering, procurement, and construction activities to meet project objectives and communicate status/issues to stakeholders.
- Collaborate with the Capital Projects Leader and/or Project Investment Manager to develop and deploy the project team organization structure.
- Serve as a key, critical member of the project lead team on larger projects.
- Develop technical specifications for equipment, materials, engineering services, and contractor services.
- Lead supplier qualification and selection, and participate in contract negotiations.
- Develop and maintain the integrated project schedule and coordinate all project activities into a plan aligned with Capital Investment Plan (CIP) objectives.
- Establish and maintain project controls, including work breakdown structure, cost tracking/forecasting, schedule compliance, documentation, and EHS compliance.
- Ensure adherence to change management policies, Capital Investment, and Financial policies.
- Communicate project status—progress, budget, safety, risks, and deviations—to key customers and team members.
- Integrate current Best Practices and Value Improving Processes into the project implementation strategy.
- Oversee process and design engineering deliverables, monitor engineering consultant work for cost-effectiveness, functionality, maintainability, and safety.
- Control scope of work, engineering costs, and budget deviations.
- Align stakeholders and subject matter experts in evaluating options and technical alternatives.
- Manage and coordinate all construction activities from project start to start-up, ensuring quality, cost control, and personnel safety.
- Work with facility operations and maintenance organizations to ensure successful transition from construction to operation.
- Develop construction completion and check-out protocols aligned with commissioning and start-up needs.
- Close projects by verifying process performance, transferring documentation, finalizing financial accounting, and demobilizing the project.
