Position Summary
The Capital Project Engineer is responsible for managing the planning, design, execution, and closeout of capital projects within a manufacturing or industrial facility. This role works closely with operations, maintenance, engineering, contractors, and vendors to deliver projects safely, on schedule, within budget, and in compliance with company standards. Projects may include facility expansions, process improvements, equipment installations, production line upgrades, utility improvements, and infrastructure enhancements.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead capital projects from concept development through commissioning and project closeout.
- Develop project scopes, cost estimates, schedules, and execution plans.
- Manage engineering design activities, contractor coordination, and procurement efforts.
- Oversee installation, construction, startup, and commissioning of manufacturing equipment and facility systems.
- Ensure compliance with safety, environmental, regulatory, and company standards throughout project execution.
- Capture and manage project budgets, schedules, risks, and key performance indicators.
- Support equipment FATs, SATs, startup activities, and performance verification.
- Identify opportunities for continuous improvement, capacity expansion, cost reduction, and reliability enhancement.
- Prepare project status updates and communicate progress to stakeholders and leadership teams.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Chemical, Electrical, Industrial, or related discipline).
- 2+ years of experience managing capital projects in manufacturing, food & beverage, consumer products, chemical, pharmaceutical, or industrial environments.
- Experience managing CAPEX projects from concept through startup.
- Knowledge of engineering design, construction practices, and project management principles.
- Ability to read and interpret P&IDs, equipment layouts, process flow diagrams, and construction drawings.
- Experience managing contractors, vendors, and project budgets.
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- PMP certification or formal project management training.
- Experience with greenfield, brownfield, plant expansion, or facility upgrade projects.
- Knowledge of food safety, GMP, OSHA, and environmental compliance requirements.
- Experience supporting utility systems, packaging lines, process systems, or material handling equipment.
