Capital Markets Strategic Execution Lead
The role
The purpose of this role is to formulate, develop, and drive the strategic initiatives and operating routines of the Capital Markets business, partnering directly with the Capital Markets leadership team across Debt Capital Markets (DCM), Leveraged Finance (LevFin), and Equity Capital Markets (ECM).
About the role
Acting as a trusted business-management partner to the Capital Markets leadership team, the role is responsible for executing leadership’s current strategy, including projects to expand and deepen the platform’s product capabilities, and for coordinating delivery across the full set of constituents required to run the business.
Responsibilities
- Partner with the Capital Markets leadership team across Debt Capital Markets (DCM), Leveraged Finance (LevFin), and Equity Capital Markets (ECM) to develop business strategy and the target operating model, including the organizational shifts and adjustments (people, product, process) required to deliver on that strategy.
- Work directly with the Capital Markets leaders to execute their current strategy, translating strategic objectives into cross-functional execution plans that deliver the desired outcomes, including projects to expand and deepen the platform’s product capabilities.
- Serve as the primary point of coordination across the broad set of constituents required to run the business, including trading, risk, legal, compliance, product control, finance, technology, marketing and communications, and human resources, to advance strategic priorities and resolve cross-functional issues.
- Apply a strong understanding of capital markets and the product flows within an investment bank to identify opportunities, anticipate risks, and inform business decisions.
- On an ongoing basis, identify opportunities and develop initiatives to accelerate performance against the organization’s strategic goals and objectives.
- Lead the development of, and present, recommendations to address strategic business needs.
- Perform qualitative and quantitative analyses (e.g., benchmarks, industry trends, and internal operating and financial data) to support strategic rationale and measure results.
- Lead cross-functional teams to clarify the execution tactics and plans required to achieve strategic goals.
- Facilitate and drive project meetings with senior business leaders and client, product, and business-partner subject-matter experts (SMEs).
- Support the development and execution of the agenda and approach for operating routines, including leadership meetings and business reviews.
- Prepare and deliver high-quality, executive-level presentations for Capital Markets leadership, including regular town halls, leadership meetings, and leadership offsites.
- Develop and drive consistent adoption of templates, processes, and approaches that streamline core and common functions, including meetings and client engagement, business overviews, headcount tracking and management, and HR initiatives.
- Support a culture of collaboration and trust through frequent and transparent communication, professionalism, and respect.
- Develop, guide, and mentor less-tenured teammates.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, or equivalent education and related training or experience to include 8+ years of experience in positions that carry increasing levels of responsibility, including experience in strategy or business consulting.
- Critical-thinking skills; ability to break-down large, abstract problems or questions into sub-components and develop comprehensive and cohesive recommendations, with supporting data/rationale.
- Excellent communication skills (written and verbal).
- Strong cross-functional collaboration skills.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, ability to engage with stakeholders at all levels in the organization.
- Advanced proficiency with MS Office tools: PowerPoint, Excel and Word.
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior experience in a business management, strategy, or business-execution capacity supporting a capital markets or investment banking business.
- Strong knowledge of, and experience in, strategic planning and execution, including creating and executing comprehensive plans associated with business integrations, product launches and enhancements, technology releases, policy changes, and line-of-business strategic plans.
- Proven ability to collaborate across organizational silos.
- Ability to think strategically while delivering tactically.
- Strong understanding of capital markets, including Debt Capital Markets, Leveraged Finance, and Equity Capital Markets, and of the product flows within an investment bank.
- Ability to translate and present complex data in a manner that educates, enhances understanding, and influences decisions.
- Advanced skills in data visualization and storytelling.
- Sense of urgency and the ability to multi-task and manage competing priorities in a deadline-driven environment.
- MBA or relevant professional certification.
