About the Role
Novelis Bay Minette is seeking a CAPEX Leader to lead the site capital expenditure process for its new facility dedicated to aluminum reclamation and rolling operations in Bay Minette, Alabama. This role owns the site’s capital investment program and supports both annual and long-range capital planning. The CAPEX Leader will manage designated capital projects, ensuring they are delivered safely, on time, within budget, and meet commissioning, startup, operational readiness, and long-term reliability requirements.
The role involves engaging multi-functionally with Engineering, Operations, Maintenance, Reliability, Procurement, Finance, EHS, OEMs, contractors, and site leadership to convert business needs into executable capital projects and ensure completed assets are transitioned optimally into plant operations.
Responsibilities
- Own and run the Bay Minette CAPEX process from project identification through approval, execution, commissioning, handover, and closeout.
- Maintain the master capital project portfolio, including scope, budget, forecast, committed cost, actual spend, schedule, risks, owner, and project status.
- Support annual and multi-year capital planning for safety, reliability, environmental compliance, infrastructure, utilities, production support, and continuous improvement projects.
- Develop or support project charters, scopes of work, cost estimates, business justifications, schedules, procurement strategies, and risk assessments.
- Lead assigned capital projects through planning, procurement, installation, commissioning, startup support, documentation, and turnover to Operations and Maintenance.
- Partner with Procurement to develop bid packages, evaluate proposals, support contractor selection, and handle vendor and contractor performance.
- Work with Finance to support capital approval routing, spend tracking, accruals, forecasts, cash flow, capitalization timing, and variance reporting.
- Ensure project execution aligns with Novelis safety expectations, site EHS standards, applicable codes, environmental requirements, and contractor management requirements.
- Coordinate asset handover requirements, including SAP/CMMS asset setup, BOMs, PMs, critical spares, drawings, manuals, training, and closeout documentation.
- Lead post-project reviews to confirm scope completion, collect lessons learned, validate business benefits, and improve future capital project execution.
- Adhere to and support company quality, environmental, health & safety, and certification standards, including ISO 9001:2015, ISO 14001:2015, ISO 45001:2018, IATF 16949:2016, and ASI Certifications, where applicable.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Project Management, Business, or related technical field.
- 7 to 10 years of experience leading capital projects in manufacturing, heavy industrial, metals, aluminum, steel, chemical, energy, automotive, pulp and paper, mining, or similar environments.
- Strong knowledge of CAPEX budgeting, project controls, cost tracking, forecasting, procurement, scheduling, contractor coordination, and project reporting.
- Experience developing project scopes, business cases, cost estimates, schedules, risk registers, and execution plans.
- Demonstrated ability to run numerous projects at different stages while maintaining safety, cost, schedule, quality, and customer alignment.
- Strong communication, leadership, problem-solving, planning, and decision-making skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in aluminum rolling, recycling, remelt, casting, hot mill, cold mill, finishing, or metals manufacturing.
- Prior experience supporting a greenfield plant startup, major plant expansion, or large industrial construction project.
- PMP, PE, CAPM, Six Sigma, or other project management/engineering certification.
- Experience with SAP, Prometheus, MS Project, Primavera P6, Power BI, Excel-based project controls, or similar systems.
- Knowledge of reliability-centered maintenance, asset management, spare parts strategy, PM development, Management of Change, and commissioning processes.

About the Location
Novelis' newly announced Bay Minette facility will be located 35 miles northeast of Mobile, AL, and 45 miles west of Pensacola, FL. The facility is expected to create approximately 1,000 high-paying advanced careers in modern manufacturing. This highly advanced rolling and recycling facility will primarily serve customers in the beverage can and automotive markets.
