Capacity Engineer

Position : Capacity Engineer Location : Bay Area, CA/Austin TX Fulltime Job Description :- A Capacity Engineer (SRE) is seeking a specialized Site Reliability Engineering role focused on ensuring infrastructure meets user demand efficiently, balancing performance with cost They forecast growth, analyze usage trends, and automate resource provisioning (e.g., using Prometheus , Grafana , Harness IaCM ) to prevent outages, over-provisioning, or under-provisioning. Key Responsibilities & Focus Areas Demand Forecasting: Analyzing historical patterns to predict future resource needs (CPU, memory, storage). Load Testing & Scaling: Simulating traffic spikes to identify bottlenecks and ensure systems scale linearly. Cost Efficiency: Optimizing resource allocation to avoid over-provisioning (avoiding unnecessary costs) while maintaining service availability. Automation: Using Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools like Terraform to automate scaling and infrastructure provisioning. Architecture Review: Collaborating with software teams to flag single points of failure and ensure resilient service design. Tools & Techniques Monitoring & Observability: Prometheus , Grafana , Datadog for metrics. Chaos Engineering: Testing system resilience under stress. Infrastructure as Code: Terraform , Ansible , Harness Why it Matters Capacity planning prevents the "unexpected " in production by preparing for both expected traffic growth and sudden, unexpected surges. It serves as a vital bridge between software development and infrastructure, ensuring that reliability (SLOs) and cost-efficiency are maintained simultaneously.
