Can Line Operator

Starting pay is $31.46 per hour with a $1.00 shift differential for night shifts.

Schedule

6 PM – 6 AM on a 2-2-3 rotating shift:

• Week 1: 36 hours
• Week 2: 48 hours (includes overtime)

Responsibilities

• Assist with changeovers and stage coils on all lines using the HOIST forklift
• Keep all lines stocked with coils
• Provide break coverage and assist all DRD lines as needed
• Perform in-process tests (e.g., contamination tests, enamel rating, compound film weights, copper sulfate test, water test, stripe weights, enamel slitter and scroll registration, axial and panel tests)
• Check and record can and end physical dimensions, sheet length, squareness, and related inspections
• Inspect tester rejects and maintain acceptable quality levels
• Check functionality of testers and visually inspect operations at prescribed frequencies
• Remove defective production from lines and issue Hold Work Sheets as needed
• Accurately record tests, inspections, and related data (including computer input)
• Initiate H.F.I.s, identify discrepant material, and maintain records
• Collaborate with mechanics, operating personnel, and supervision to ensure product quality
• Maintain clean and orderly work areas and equipment
• Perform duties with minimal supervision
• Attend weekly safety meetings and other required meetings

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED
• Qualified journeyman-level Inspector or successful completion of the Inspector Trainee program
• Ability to read and comprehend operating instructions, manuals, and specifications
• Proficiency in using inspection gauges and computer data entry
• Knowledge of tinplate, coating materials, and related processes
• Strong communication skills (written and verbal)
• Basic mathematical skills (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division using whole numbers, fractions, and decimals)
• Ability to solve practical problems and interpret instructions in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form
• Willingness to work shift work and overtime as needed
• Ability to work in a loud environment with moving machinery, chemicals, and occasional fumes or airborne particles
