Duties And Responsibilities

  • Understands and supports the mission, vision and values of Harmony Public Schools.
  • Creates a small-group environment that is conducive to learning, includes research-based best practices, and is appropriate to the maturity and interests of the students.
  • Plans small group lessons that, as much as possible, meet the individual needs, interests, and abilities of students.
  • Provides focused, targeted, and systematic second language acquisition instruction and progress reports to the identified Emergent bilingual students/English learners.
  • Develops and implements instructional scaffolds for students based on prior analysis of a lesson’s text complexity and formative assessment.
  • In collaboration with the classroom ELAR teacher, analyzes formative/summative assessment data to plan and makes informed adjustments to lesson preparation and instruction for small groups.
  • Evaluates student work samples against established criteria to identify and analyze trends and plan instructional next steps.
  • Supports students in setting goals and maintains standards of classroom behavior.
  • Analyzes year-long curriculum to anticipate student struggles and maps prerequisite knowledge for a unit of instruction.
  • Refers students for evaluation by district specialists as required.
  • Employs a variety of instructional techniques and instructional media consistent with the physical limitations of the location provided, and the needs and capabilities of the individuals or student groups involved.
  • Takes necessary and reasonable precautions to protect the students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
  • Maintains accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy, and administrative regulations.
  • Aids the administration in implementing all policies and rules governing student life, conduct, and equity.
  • Makes provisions for being available to the students and to the parents for education-related purposes when required.
  • Maintains and improves professional competence.
  • Participates in district and campus staff development.
  • Attends staff meetings and serves on staff committees.
  • Maintains a professional relationship with colleagues.
  • Establishes and maintains open lines of communication with students, parents, and community members.

Skills And Abilities

  • Knowledge of reading curriculum and instruction.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in both written and oral forms with all levels of management, both internal and external to the district.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships both internal and external to the district.
  • Ability to use effective organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills.
  • Ability to use computer including software, database used by the district, spreadsheet and word processing software, calculator, copy machine and telephone.
  • Ability to analyze data.

Work Environment And Physical Requirements

  • Light Work: may require the occasional light lifting.
  • Nights and weekend activities will be occasionally required.
  • Position is in classroom setting and intermittent speaking, standing, walking and writing.
  • Moderate travel is required.
