Campus Safety Event Officer

About the role

The Campus Safety Event Officer is responsible for providing professional and courteous campus safety services to the university community. This includes general assistance, enforcing university regulations, responding to emergencies, and engaging in outreach and diversity initiatives.

Responsibilities

• Patrol and inspect all areas of assigned events, ensuring safety and security.
• Assume responsibility for the safety and security of people and property during events.
• Evaluate situations, problems, emergencies, and use discretion to resolve issues, or notify appropriate personnel.
• Respond quickly, responsibly, and professionally to any emergency or stressful situation, rendering first aid and/or performing CPR and/or AED as necessary.
• Assertively and professionally manage and control traffic, crowds, unruly, and/or intoxicated individuals.
• Maintain a working knowledge of university and department policies and procedures, keeping up-to-date on required information to effectively enforce and warn violators of rule infractions.
• Communicate and interact effectively with a diverse group of students, faculty, staff, and visitors.
• Engage in educational sessions on university policies related to student conduct, sexual misconduct, sexual harassment, and bias-related conduct.
• Promote understanding of similarities and differences in student populations and diverse cultures in all areas of the university community.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Able to multi-task and perform in a busy and stressful environment.
• Ability to physically respond to all incidents and emergencies throughout assigned area.
• Must have and maintain a current and valid NYS driver’s license with a responsible driving history.
• Must be able to receive, evaluate, prioritize, and relay calls.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Previous related work experience as a campus safety/security officer and/or prior experience working in a college/university environment preferred.
• Experience in recognizing and resolving and/or referring to emergency and stressful situations highly desired.
• Knowledge of local and state laws preferred.
• CPR, EMT, and First Aid certification highly desired.
