About The Role
As a Camp Respite Counselor, you'll be a guide, friend, and role model for campers during weekend retreats. From leading games and songs to assisting with personal care, you'll help create a safe, supportive, and joy-filled experience that campers will never forget.
Key Responsibilities
- Supervise and engage campers in recreational, social, and creative activities throughout the weekend.
- Provide hands-on support with daily living tasks such as dressing, feeding, hygiene, and mobility - with respect and compassion.
- Foster an inclusive, positive, and fun camp culture for all participants.
- Aid in behavior support, conflict resolution, and promoting positive social interaction.
- Collaborate with fellow counselors, nurses, and program staff to ensure camper safety and well-being.
- Assist with setup, cleanup, and transitions between activities and meals.
- Be an energetic leader, a caring companion, and a dependable team member.
Qualifications
- Must be at least 18 years old.
- Ability to work weekend shifts (typically Friday evening to Sunday afternoon).
- Passion for working with individuals with disabilities.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Flexibility, patience, and a sense of humor!
- Ability to assist with physical tasks, including lifting, transfers, and mobility support.
Preferred Experience
- Working with youth or individuals with disabilities (camp, school, recreation, etc.).
- CPR/First Aid Certification (or willingness to obtain).
- Background in special education, social work, psychology, or recreational therapy.
